Snickersnack: Pretty much this. The WiiU's specs may be underwhelming but the platform is still a huge upgrade for first party Nintendo titles.
If I stopped caring about Nintendo first-party games when I turned 16 or so though, this offers me little incentive to care.

Which is fine I guess, nothing appeals to everyone. I just think going back to the N64 and Gamecube philosophy of "buy it for Nintendo games" isn't a super wise idea.

I think Nintendo is a software company that makes hardware so they have more control over their platform. Buying a Nintendo console for 3rd party support seems like a losing a proposition.

Roman5: WiiU specs finally revealed;

Wii U will be powered by a CPU which features three IBM Power PC Cores, an AMD series 7 GPU and 1GB of memory available to games. The console’s CPU is apparently formed of three IBM Power PC cores of an undefined clock speed, though reports suggest this to be lower than the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Clock speed isn't everything. Despite being clocked at only 729MHz, the original Wii's CPU is only slightly less powerful than the 3.2 MHz CPU of the Xbox 360. The difference with the X360 CPU is with multi-threading.

Both Xbox 360 and PS3 were recognized to have very, very crappy CPUs even 7 years ago. Even with a lower clock speed, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U CPU is a lot more powerful. Of course, it's a moot point if third-party developers just do crappy ports to the Wii U. I think as PC gamers we can all attest to how poor the performance can be in ports of console games.

"AMD 7 series GPU" probably means something like 67XX, rather than 7XXX. Many rumours of late had indicated 6770, which approximately 3 to 4 times more powerful than current GPU of 360/PS3.

1 GB RAM specifically for games, might mean that there is 1.5GB total (500MB for OS) which also fits with earlier rumours.

Sure, but the N64 and Gamecube show that route leads to business problems. The Wii performed well by capturing a national mainstream fad status, something they are in no way guaranteed to do again with the WiiU.
The new counsle looks intresting, but hell I just want to buy it for 2 reasons. 1 Zelda games.
2. Rumors of Silicon Knights developing a new Eternal Darkness game. When it does come out there may be more reasons for me to buy it but for a long time I have been a PC guy and dabbled in Xbox 360.

I love nintendo but this is really lame and it is in fact the only nintendo console i'm not even considering buying at launch or at the first year....

My reasons:
i buy consoles for games. Wii u has nothing at all that interests me. Nintendoland seems better then wii play but nothing that will hold my interest for more then a few minutes. New super mario wii u is nothing new, so not interesting enough to buy a console for. Other interesting games are available on other console so again no reason to buy a wii u (if you own the other consoles). Bayonetta 2 did come as a shock since it's an exclusive but i didn't really like the first one, so again for me: not interesting.

I have no need for facebook stuff and definitly not on my console. I don't even own a smartphone or tablet because these pointless gadgets don't interest me. That nintendo TVii looks nice but has almost no use in europe.

Since it's graphical strengths are only slightly better then xbox 360 and ps 3 this thing will be obsolete in two years max. Then every develeoper will drop it like they did the wii.

backwards compatibility: i assumed that would be perfect since wii played all gamecube games, so i thought well: wii u will play (hopefully gamecube and )wii games. Reggi said it will play most wii games. So no mention of gamecube and the word most worries me because most can mean a lot in PR...

Lastly: since it has nothing interesting (again for me) and it is likely they will convert 350 $ to 350 euro it's way too expensive...

If i went back to consoles, then i couldn't bring myself to use controllers like that. The Wii was irritating enough.

I like bog standard game pads.

Hopefully more console stuff will be available on pc.
OK I am sold I am definitly getting WiiU for this

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/13/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-announced-for-wii-u-and-3ds-available/

Thank you Capcom now release Monster Hunter Fronteir here in the West please

The games a MMORPG but it is NOT a WOW Clone
i might get it eventually for Pikmin 3 but the launch lineup has nothing that interests me at all
I think I'm going to pass. I might eventually get it, but I am in no rush. I have the Wii and it only comes out a few times a year on those rare events where I get drunk enough to think just Dance or balance games on the Wii fit sound fun. The Wii was a total waste of money spent. I'm going to try to not repeat that.
Hmm, there are no games that have convinced me yet. I'll doubtless get one at some point, for Zelda.

It's a given that it won't play GC games. Later regular Wiis can't play GC games, just as later DSs couldn't play GBA games. This is to the Wii what the 3DS is to the DS, they're not suddenly going to bring back Gamecube support, just as they didn't suddenly bring back GBA support.

They haven't given one in the UK yet. It's currently speculation isn't it?
Amazon have it on listed at 249.99 for the basic package. ;(
