Darvond: There isn't even a freaking button remap. Also, for some baffling reason, Europeans are getting slapped with inferior 50htz versions when PAL TVs can do 60 nowadays. WITH NO OPTION TO SWITCH, I might add.

jamyskis: That's wrong for a start. All VC games since F-Zero have been the US 60Hz versions, and Balloon Fight has since also been updated to 60Hz.
How grand. What if I hypothetically want to play in German, or say Konami wants Contra but Germany says no? Would Probotector be updated to be 60htz?

Not quite sure what you're getting at.

I'm not sure what happens if you change your region in your settings, but I know that I have Germany set as a region and I don't see Contra/Probotector in the eShop. In fact, I don't see Contra/Probotector in any region.

The only versions that are/were blacklisted in Germany were the C64/Spectrum/Amstrad versions, and they're now in the clear. The NES version - Probotector - was never banned or blacklisted in any way. So I'm not sure why Germany would say no - they'd probably even pass with a 12 rating nowadays - nor am I sure why you think that a German ban would affect a release in the US, whose release schedule is entirely separate from Europe's. Ninja Gaiden 3 was available on the UK eShop for the longest time, and it's only just appeared on the German one.

As I say, I have my eShop region set to German which means that I get Link to the Past and Super Metroid in German.

They're not going to intentionally run it at a wrong speed - especially when a (admittedly small) number of games actually handled it correctly.

Is there such a thing as a PAL or NTSC TV these days? Didn't we leave those concepts behind along with CRTs?

What if we use a CRT TV to play these games? Wii is SD so i don't like to play Wii games in HDTV. Plus older emulated games on HDTV?

Explaining why it was all an issue in the first place that had to be corrected. :B I think Nintendo chose authenticity over actual performance until they got their heads bit off.

Not all countries have managed to switch to a new format.

Nope.

Later CRTs in Europe actually supported both 50Hz and 60Hz (PAL 60Hz uses the NTSC 60Hz refresh rate with the PAL colour encoding systems), and indeed, if you had a GameCube in Europe with a TV that didn't support 60Hz, you were essentially fucked with games like Geist.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the WIi U does support standard def TVs, although I don't know how a 50Hz-only TV would process actual Wii U games, which run universally at 60Hz. In any case, the supposed reason why Nintendo kept VC games at 50 Hz was to cater for those with antiquated TVs.´Not sure why they'd assume that people with an antiquated SDTV would buy a Wii U, but anyway. Bizarre, but true.

Also, HDTV transmissions in Europe and the US still differ in that Europe still broadcasts in 50 Hz and the US still broadcasts in 60 Hz, so most HDTVs will support both refresh rates.
Personally I absolutely loved Virtual Console on Wii. Back in its day it was one of the best reasons to have a Wii, especially if you did not have an N64, Sega Genesis, or NES already. Besides, I get to use my favorite controller when I play on VC as opposed to on the original, that being the Gamecube controller. However, some games just plain don't work with it especially for SNES.

I guess since you're saying eShop and not Wii Shop Channel you mean the Wii U/3DS version. Aside from maybe Earthbound and Shining Force I have not found as many compelling titles on there as I did on the Wii version. I suppose that could be because I got a Wii U around the time I signed up here and have been getting miraculous discounts on awesome games here, thus not allotting many funds to Wii U games.

Theta_Sigma: Does anyone know if Mother 2 (Earthbound) is available for the 3DS or if it's just Wii (or WiiU). I was considering getting a points/cash/whatever card and getting the game but I'm unsure if the game was available from VC in general or only for specific devices.
Well if you have a 3DS why don't you just look for it on the eShop?

The answer to you question is no, there are no SNES games available for the 3DS but my point was that you could have easily found that out yourself. ;P

Theta_Sigma: Modern Nintendo devices from the DSi/Wii forward have Virtual Console
No VC on the DSi to the best of my knowledge.

Oh I have looked, but I figured I'd ask in case I was blind and didn't see where it may have been. I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask in the case of simply overlooking it.

Really? I thought DSi had access to VC, I was considering getting one but then the 3DS came out and I figured what the heck and got a 3DS instead.

No the DSi doesn't have the capabilities for that. It only has access to the probably overdue to be closed Shovelwa--I mean DSiware shop.

It had (has?) access to DSiware but they never added any VC games to the DSi shop.

Welp, glad I never wasted the money then. I still hope that the 3DS gets the Mother trilogy at least, even if done as a port done like with Ocarina of Time.

Most informative, thank you :-)
Got hold of a 3DS recently myself and been looking at the eshop as well. Except for some indie games haven't really bought anything there. Well Super Mario 3 was on sale during Christmas so I got that, but yeah that emulation seems very bare-bones.
Anyone have tried to those Mega Drive 3D "remakes"? I heard somewhere that they were good. Just wonder how are the games without 3D, that bs gives me headache.
