I'm Probably the only person who doesn't own a Nintendo DS or Gameboy of any kind. With the Nintendo DSi coming out I'm a little worried about something. Is the original Nintendo DS going to be available or is the DSi going to completely replace its predecessor? The reason I ask is because there are a few Gameboy games I was planning on getting that I wouldn't be able to get if the DSi is all that's available. Also theirs a tiny voice in the back of my head saying that the Gameboy games aren't worth it, and I should just get the DSi whether or not the original is available. Usually the little voice tells me to kill people but he got bored with that and has started giving me video game advice.

I have a Nintendo DS and its gathering dust. There just arent the quality of games available that I would like.
I also have a PSP, and will most likely get rid of that once I've finished Crisis Core.
I've been very disappointed in general, the only games that interest me are those which I used to own on older systems. I'd rather spend less money buying older PC games.

I sure as hell play my DS games.

there are two games playable on the NDS that I will play for the rest of my life.
Planet Puzzle League, and Dr. Mario/Puzzle League GBA.
I sold my DS a while back because it was broken, but I intend on Getting a DSi. I already have a GBA so I'm satisfied with Puzzle League.
Anyway, I also heartily recommend the Ace Attorney games, they're magnificent, but probably only good for one play through.

The DSi is going to have a download store, so some older games may show up there.
This is the only official word (or, indeed, any word at all) I could find about the future availability of the DS Lite. An interview with NoA's executive VP of sales and marketing. It's pretty noncommittal, but suggests they won't be discontinuing the DS Lite when the DSi launches. At least, not right away.
Even if they do discontinue it, I'm sure you could find one second hand, if you wanted one.

I've got a first-gen DS, and a DS Lite that I bought a few months ago once I heard about the pending release of the DSi. Basically, if you want a DS Lite that will play GBA cartridges, you'd better buy it while you can get the color scheme you want. Don't ever count on Nintendo hardware going on clearance. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but I *am* saying that it's very, very hit or miss as Nintendo products are far more resistant to price-drops and/or clearance sales in general.
As far as I'm concerned, the DS Lite is a very nice piece of hardware for the kinds of games that I enjoy playing on it. Once the DSi is available in mass quantities and has been on the market for a certain amount of time, they will of course consider ceasing production of the older model, regardless of what anyone says *now*. It's just the way these things work.

I have a first-gen DS I got used, and it's starting to show some serious wear so I've been thinking of upgrading. But the DSi has no GBA slot? No, thank you. I actually do play my GBA games, and I like having a backlit screen (which my GBA lacks, it too being an older model). Looks like I need to pick up a DS Lite -- new, this time -- before they disappear. Hopefully that won't happen too quickly...

My biggest problem with the DS, as well as the DSi is that I'd rather die from internal bleeding than be seen with one of those design abominations.

Is it just me or does this look even more outdated than the GameGear and the m105?

As old as they are, I'd be worried about buying one only to have it die on me 6 months later. (I had a bad run of electronics failures last year, and even though most of them were freak things I'm still feeling wary.) Unless you mean a new one, in which case -- they still make them? Doubt I'd find a new one inexpensively.

damn, I was hoping that the new model would spur a large price drop, I could ALMOST justify getting one for squad command if in total it cost about as much as a regular 360 game but there seems little chance of that without an ebay bargain
