I'm still not going to get a 3DS thanks to their stupid region locking policy (seriously, are they stuck in the early 2000?) but this.... what the hell is this? This is like the derp brother of the 3DS and 3DS XL.

At least I know I will migrate from NDS to NDSi XL.

Zchinque: It's even harder to find DSes that play, y'know, 3DS games.
I get the impression that a lot of people assume it's just a regular DS with 3D shoved in, ignoring the fact that the hardware got an upgrade too.

lugum: But if the game is not in 3d anymore they might as well just released the games on the ds.
Offcourse it's obvious you can't play them, it's just a cash-in move from Nintendo, just as all the xl xxl versions. Just make a good one and stick with it.
You are aware that there are some differences between a DS and a 3DS, other than the 3DS having a 3D screen? No?
Well I'm a bit happy with this announcement. I felt that the build quality of the consoles since the DS Lite have been a bit... chintzy.
This looks a bit more like the venerable GameBoy, and I hope it has a similar build in terms of durability.

The problem is the naming system. Common folks who don't follow video game news occasionally will dismiss as just another version of NDS.

Just like when Wii U was announced. A lot of people was like "So it's a new add on controller for Wii?"

Some more power? Yeah that makes it convincing to save $30-40 on getting a 2ds rather then a 3ds.
As for the games, just like the ds you get like 10-20 AAA titles and the rest is all My Pony etc.
high rated
Who thinks the name of this new handheld is retarded? 2DS...as if it is the only handheld system out there capable of 2D graphics. :P

Next one is VectorDS.
What idiot designed this abomination? He deserves his eyes stabbed out so he can never design anything again. Anyways, the device is lackign the great clamshell design of the (3)DS, it's like Nintendo half-assed this thing intentionally. I loved the clamshell, it protected the screens and kept the device small. My DS Lite can easily fit inside my pocket, but but there is no way to fit the 2DS anywhere. But I guess size is not a big priority in a portable console.

It's never about size it's what you do with it..

As it's pretty clear it's meant for a younger audience, a cheap entry point certainly makes sense.

Not sure what you're getting at here. And I do not at all see how it backs up your earlier argument that a 3DS game without 3D should somehow be playable on a DS.
It looks very, very bad

who on earth designed this thing?

more importantly: Why would I want to buy this over, let's say a PsVita?
same price as a regular smartphone... no chance this can beat android games
For a second I thought it was going to be a joke thread, but then I clicked on it and saw the link...and then clicked the link.

And still no second control stick?

If you're going to buy a 3DS just buy one of the other units (regular or XL).

Because the major future of the 3DS is the 3D part (hence the name) with that removed, it just acts like a normal ds game. Or are you really thinking the graphics would be that much different/better? doubt that.

The ds has over 6000 releases , name more then 30 really good games. It will happen with the 3DS too.
Just as it is happening with the Wii U, stores are already pulling the consoles from the shelves.
Never said anything about that it should be playable, just saying a 3DS without the 3d would not make that much difference over a normal DS. Atleast no valid reason to get another $120 computer especially if you already have a DS.
I have a DS and i would like a 3Ds in the future, but that's what i would buy, not ever a 2DS. Why skimp over $40.

Also a DS and a 2DS are about the same price, only the first has the big game catalogue at the moment.
Once the 2DS/3DS catalogue has grown, there will be another nintendo portable but then the 2DS/3DS price would have dropped just as it did with the DS.
