What is without a doubt not only a surprise to myself, but also for many others, Night Dive has just released Wizardry games 6-8 on Steam. They are selling 6 and 7 for $4.99 each and 8 for $9.99, which makes the package slightly more expensive than what is offered by GOG. I don't only if they offer the GOG setup files, but they are using GOG's screenshots.

Now, what I find truly surprising, even troublesome, is the supposed publisher. Here it is Gamepot Inc. I have no idea how Night Dive managed to get it released on Steam, without also being credited here. If someone knows more about these development or if a bluetext wants to comment, please do. At least GOG got the short exclusivity period we have become accustomed to.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. After all, GOG is getting some free advertising :D

I will name my firstborn Gogcom.
If they have DOS Wiz7 there, I'll buy it on a sale. With free cards money.
Same thing as with System Shock 2, so no surprise for me. :p

edit: And more people playing Wiz 8 is always a good thing. ;)

It's nice that you guys are getting some advertisement, but that does answer the confusion around publishers. I know the Bizdev team doesn't allow you to go spilling the beans, but is there any way we can know who exactly has been given the publishing rights? Why hasn't Gamepot Inc. published the games by itself on Steam?

I would suggest you ask Gamepot or Night Dive themselves as I am the last person to ask because I like my job :P

Fine by me. I'd also hate to be the person responsible for you losing your job, so let's give this thing a rest.

Nightdive got a good sence of humor!
Interesting. This might suggest that Night Dive was somehow behind the GOG re-release of Wizardry too.
There are lots of other classics also on Steam (and GamersGate), even many that are not even in GOG. X-Com or LucasArts adventures, anyone?

And then some people claim that old games is the (only) thing setting GOG apart from other digital stores... As I keep saying, the other digital stores are also catching up on selling classics, among all the other games they sell. It would be foolish for GOG to concentrate only on that one niche, when the likes of Steam and GamersGate keep also increasingly expanding to it.

Why was this surprising? Honest question.

Edit: Oh I see, they didn't publish them here. Interesting. Oh well, good for them, Steam has a lot more customers.
