Braid 75% on Humble store for the next 3 hours!

The Linux installer is a .deb package and installed like a charm on my Ubuntu partition too :).

Guess I'll find out later today what the fuss was about :P.

PS, while I was there: Road to Redemption looks like an awesome update on Road Rash. It's a DRM-free Windows game... right up GOG's alley. Me think they should move in on that one...

Braid is a funny old game. It wasn't the difficulty of the puzzles that eventually put me off it. It wasn't even the absurdly pretentious game design and narrative. It was that fucking collision detection.
I remember road rash from my mega drive (genesis). Looks like fun :-)

Do I need a Steam Account for the humble store?
Or is this optional if it also says "DRM-FREE" next to the game?

I got 3 games from them so far, all DRM-free.

Linux mileage may vary: 2 hours of Googling to get Space Pirates and Zombies installed and running while Braid installed and ran like a charm out of the box. I think unlike GOG, support is 100% up to the developers.

However, so far, everything that was advertised as DRM-free was.

Additionally, when the steam logo appears, you can claim the games at Steam, but that doesn't clash with the DRM-free version. It's an additional thing they provide: A Steam version AND a DRM-free version (when both the Steam and DRM-free logo are present).

I should try to bookmark threads more not to have to backtrack so much...

Anyhow, I tried Braid (did 3-4 worlds so far) and it's not bad.

Definitely a game that is meant to be more challenging then "fun" and 8 hours straight of it will probably make you want to throw your computer out the window, but 30 minutes to an hour of it in the morning and evening complement my day quite nicely.

I find the atmosphere of the game rather humble, unpretentious and downright charming for my part. The narrative does strike me as somewhat self-centered and narcissistic, but as I've yet to see the final denouement of the game, I'm unsure if it's something the game creator is trying to sell or simply the (possibly evolving) point of view of the protagonist.

Didn't notice anything buggy with the collision detection so far...

I have to admit I found the game to be a visual a marvel (i.e. beyond mediocre concepts such as 'nice'), but I also thought the game was a chore to play, so I think I recollect playing one hour at best.

Gameplay never beat visuals in my mind.

Edit : for the record I love my platformers.

Pretty much the same here. I played through 2? 3? levels. Not sure now, but I did put some time into it. But I never finished and don't think I ever will. One of the few games I've bought that I don't think I'll ever play to the end. I think you nailed with your comment. It was just a chore to play and not much fun.
I love Braid and want Braid 2.
Gameplay, story twist, music and graphics are so awesome.
Too bad many people don't comprehend what the story is about for real.

Minor spoiler:

Even the collection of those absurd hard to get hidden stars has a well thought out meaning that fits perfectly into the whole "picture" just like his illusion of being the hero by stomping all those obstacles and solving the puzzle and his wish to be able reverse time to do things differently.
It's all intertwined like... well... a braid.
