So, this next-gen is very disappointing for now. Six months old consolle, and they are doing so many remastered/HD remake so far.

First, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition
Following, Last of Us.
Then Halo Collection.

And now, Metro Redux.

Where's the point? This trend is horrible. Director's cut, GOTY edition, Extended Edition, Remastered Edition, Special Edition. First were DLCs, then Season Pass bot no, this isnt enough, so the trend now is selling the same game to the same users again and again.

It also cheapens a new release in that I have no reason to buy a game new if I run the risk of paying more money when I could pass on it until the GOTY/Ultimate/Super Colossal Pope's Lamborghini Edition comes out later. I don't mind necessarily an Ultimate edition like what DoA has done or the Wii U Edition for Tag Tournament, but too many of these, and mostly to fill up new consoles meager lineups is lame.

..and Sheldon even had doubts about which next-gen console to buy.. the real choice would have been none! (sorry, but PC is so ahead!)

Overall, I like definitive GOTY-like editions, but only:
- if I haven't already finished the previous version or if they contain expansion sections which I can still play with my previous saves. (otherwise I just missed all the new content)
- if they're upgraded like here on GOG and I don't have to pay the same game full price.

Totally with you on the GOTY editions...also the Blood reference in the tagline...love it.

; )
Well, I usually buy GOTY too (and only 75% off). But even on that, they srew consumers: just like the Borderlands 2 GOTY.
Isn't that pretty normal? It takes game makers a while to catch up to the new machines, I don't think the 360 or ps3 had a lot of awesome titles at launch. But then I didn't own either and am just repeating what I've heard. :)
Next Gen is just a buzzword at this point.
Considering the amount of money it costs to make an AAA game nowadays, I'm hardly surprised by this turn of events.

You forgot Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4 and XBONE with its version of ME 1 fixing Garrus' face texture.

New consoles have been disappointing since the NES. It takes time to get a library built up. It's more obvious with progressively newer consoles because the development time for a new game is stupid long compared to the time it took to crank out a C64 or Atari II game, or even a PS game. Art alone takes forever, and then you have to optimize the crap out of the engine because you're required to port it to four different platforms so the sales suits can be happy about their quarter-on-quarter ROI, and no console will have the sheer balls of an up-to-date enthusiast PC.

All the more reason not to buy a console for a year or so after it comes out. The older gen consoles will still be tweaking tiny improvements out of the code to make games better and better (looking) for at least that first year, and you'll get the new console with a years worth of games to play through.

Which will be great, because 80% of them will be crap and you'll put four hours in before you ragequit.

Come on, the PS1 was the best thing ever! (and I usually don't like consoles).

I *loved* the PS1...two years after release. And I bought two PS2s, too. (was going with also but had to get "two 2 too") But I still say that on release, consoles are underwhelming. The x86 technology has been - largely - based on the same architecture with incremental upgrades over the years. New consoles tend to be massive changes. This means that new consoles are *hard* to program for, because there's so much learning going on. Heck, the PS3 was still getting more and more performance out of their releases at least up until the end of 2013.

I'll pick on consoles because, well, it's fun to tease people about things; but I don't really dislike them on principle. I *do* honestly think, though, that buying a console on or near release is setting yourself up for disappointment, just because of the nature of the beast.
There have never been less need for next gen as now... Somehow a lot of people believed the lie we needed new consoles but that just wasn't true. There is no reason at this point to buy a new console, maybe in the second half of 2015. For now the best way to go is decent pc. I just can't believe they are sold out... all those people fell for it...

Next gen came two years too early imo and this gen will suffer because of it. When they finally are ready there will be pc's that are 3 times as fast as the consoles for almost the same price. Maybe pc will be the platform of the next 6 years till they realise how stupid this was and start with ps5 or new xbox that is actually a leap forward and not just a small small step....
