there was a game in the 90s called "z." it was a real time strategy game. maybe that's it?

edit: i see now that other people mentioned this game too. i hope that is the game that gog was referring to.

Clearly, they'll strike a deal with whomever is the caretaker of Zero Entertainment and bring Pop to GOG!
After seeing what new videos TotalBiscuit posted lately, I hope Z doesn't mean CastleMiner Z.
I am going to say it will be Cossacks 2 based on the recent release of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

SCPM: I'm guessing 7th Legion since we were on a roll with Tommo.

tburger: Hmmm...Maybe….But Bitmap Brothers are also here. And “Home Team” in Z was painted red.
Everyone seems to have gone 'Z' and not 7th Legion at this point in the thread but I'm going with 7th Legion, it's on the Tommo list and look at the screen shots:

How Red vs. Blue is THAT?

Austrobogulator: I want Cadaver!
Ha! Who doesn't? :)

"Z" would be a wonderful release though, such a great RTS with a lot of charm and character (remember those wonderfully animated unit portraits?), not to mention pretty unique gameplay mechanics. Destructible environments, no resources... it was rather incredible for its time.
I've never played "7th Legion", unfortunately, so I'll refrain from uttering a single word about it.

As for Halo CE - sounds unlikely, but as Gandos pointed out, it would be a harbinger of things to come. Close Combat, Midtown Madness, Age of Empires, MechWarrior etc.
When I first heard "red and blue teams", I thought General Chaos, but it was developped on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive, and the KS campaign for its sequel was sadly unsuccessfull...

And what do you think about this:

please note that not only units are red/blue (it's hardly visible on this screenshot) but most importantly a map (bottom left) is painted red and blue depending on who controls each sector and number of units (bottom) shows red and blue bars. This is really reds vs blues ;)
There is also Laser Squad which was a Red Team Vs Blue Team in the scenarios
I never played any of them so which one are we talking about here? Old Z or Z: Steel Soldiers? Or both?

Nice try but notice that good guys (home team) in 7th Legion is blue. In Z it is red.

I think both but I hope old Z is first in the row.

Ok, thanks. I wondered if it fits both games.

The second game added more factions with more colors, though, so the hint sounds more like it's specifically about the original Z.

Also: one of the best games ever made. Incredibly frustrating at times but also incredibly exciting in a good way.

mistermumbles: You do realize that it also had a DOS version - that's the one I played back in the day - so compatibility issues should be non-existent.
I wasn't the person sending the email, if that's what you were implying. But yes, I realize there was a DOS version.

However, the other Bitmap Brothers games have been $9.99 ports, so it's possible they'll release a port of one of the versions so they can charge more. (I kinda hope not, though, since people have been complaining about the ports.)

AFAIK there is no PC port/remake of Z so I bet we get classic 1996 release this Thursday.
