orcishgamer: If it makes you feel any better I finally got off my ass and am researching a pet project I want to release to a couple of mobile platforms. Sort of a "make the world a better place" kind of thing, maybe... probably not.

I will look at LWJGL, there's never been a time in the history of gaming where one or two folks could do more than today. I think gaming is valuable as leisure and art, and maybe even says something more important about us as a species (hint http://janemcgonigal.com/ listen to her TED talk, which is what first clued me into the fact that there were people like this, I might have a crush on her she is so awesome).
I hope you'd post about your projects or link me to a development blog about them! See, I agree with you about games as art, but not everyone does. And so few people really, really believe it, that the burden of proving it is pretty much directly on our shoulders. I wish I had a good art piece idea, because I'd go for it immediately. I wonder if a topic on the boards trying to collaborate on an idea would turn out well? I'll be sure to watch that TED talk also, I have yet to be disappointed by those.
I was going to spend my money on GG sale, but now that I'm aware that there's going to be this game, I changed my mind. I've always, always wanted to play a real zombie survival game set in urban environment (Left4Dead does not count, it's a shooter..), where your main goal is to survive and craft your own story...Can't wait to get my hands on it :)

By the way, I hope the devs can get some sort of playable game out before the real zombie apocalypse (you know, 21.12.2012) 'cos we need to be ready for it and train with the zombie survival simulator :D

Edit. Donated :)

This sounds like real cool beans!
I'm looking forward to it ;D
Is it going to be multiplayer? Looks and sounds very nice.
Hi chaps! Thanks for all the lovely words, and re: multiplayer, this is a feature we will be adding but later down the line after the single-player stuff is all in and sorted. Initially, 4-8 player co-op and then we'll expand from there.

But the main reason I've posted is I wanted to let you all know that the all-new Project Zomboid website is now live with a bunch of new info and videos.

Linky

Cheers :)

I just saw the 2 new videos on RPS too. Really liking what I'm seeing so far. Good job guys!

BTW did you guys take the donation link down? I'd like to send a small fee your way (next month though)

-edit- Oops never mind found it.
-edit2- Hmm I'd like to donate more than that amount on the pre-order page. What gives? Where's my freedom of choice? Democratic ideals are the way to go, guys!

Thanks lowyhong :)

Google Checkout won't let us have an arbitrary "type your own amount in" box like we can have with PayPal and we so we picked amounts that represented the sorts of donations we were getting through PayPal.

If you really wanted to, you could just donate twice ;) But, to be honest, even a small donation is hugely appreciated by us all and all goes towards keeping us fed through development :)

I just checked out the website... Man, if you guys can even pull off a fraction of what you say is going to be included, that is going to be an awesome game. I'm really looking forward to it.

Aww I was hoping to get my name up there as a special contributor, being the glory hog that I am. :(

Nah I'm just messing around. It's really good to see you guys getting more publicity too. By the way, will zombies get different heads in the final product? Can we expect to see female zombies? No zombie game is complete without female zombies! :P

Also, will you guys even be considering releasing this on retail, or at least on-demand retail? Gemini Rue had a great idea for this, where people could choose to pre-order the DVD version at a slightly higher cost; however it was only available during the pre-order window, and after that you weren't able to get the DVD version anymore.

Im sick of zombies. It seems like every other game is a zombie themed game now. Its gotten to the point were I pass over great games just because they feature zombies. Then I come across this game. A zombie game that actually uses the subject matter effectively. Bravo gentlemen. You have my respect. I wish you much success.
So can I wait until I've played the first preview build to pre-order for 8 bucks, or do I need to pre-order before that released to get the lifetime of downloads?

Oh definitely, yes! What's currently in there is sort of a template zombie which will be worked over in the future. They're bald because ultimately they will inherit their hair / headgear from the survivor from which they turned, so the baldness is just what sits underneath those graphics.

And females will of course feature - just that for the demo we focussed on getting "generic man / zombie" as complete as we could instead of splitting the work between two base types.

Hmmm... We can't say for certain what we will do in the future other than those that donate £5 or above now and probably in the foreseeable future get lifetime updates. When the game could be considered *complete* maybe we'll look into other options.

It's up to you - the £5/$8 price will more than likely continue for the foreseeable future :)

I had the same question. Game sounds amazing, especially with multiplayer. I'll probably be pre-ordering it after I try out the demo/preview version later on.
Just checked out the new content on your site. I'm really excited to play this game. You guys definatly get what the older zombie films were about and what they tried to do.

Thankyou - we're huge fans of classic zombies so wanted to make something like this for AGES :) Shame it took this long to get the opportunity though ;)
