It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Ralackk: Lemmy101 as you are answering questions at the moment any eta on a playable demo of the game? Also will that preorder with life time upgrades extend passed the point where you have a playable demo out?

I really like the sound of an actual survival RPG zombie game but I normally want to try something out before I spend any cash.
We hope to have the free "proof of concept" release ready hopefully towards the end of April (we'll put a preview trailer video together before then though). There'll be another rent bill then in any case so come what may we *need* to get it out to build more interest.

We should make it clear that many of the features we've discussed on the blog and here won't be in this version - the free version is just a cut-down version where you'll get a flavour for the game.

Once this is out, we'll begin working on updates building in all the extra features - these are the updates that anyone who has donated £5 or above will be getting for free, forever.

Yea its just a flavour for the game I'm after, see how it controls mainly. I've just donated £5 anyway. I really want to see a survival zombie game succeed. I like alot of the action zombie games out but I feel they miss the point about what a zombie apocalypse is about.

I wish you guys the best of luck and can't wait to watch the trailer and try the demo out.

Cheers Ralackk! Your support is really appreciated. We won't let you down :) (we both know our zombie apocalypses)
This is great to hear about. From reading over the blogs it looks like you guys have the experience it takes to really make this work, and of course the screenshots look great.

I'm interested in the technical details, like what the game is being written in, what tools are being used, source control, etc. Is that information documented somewhere publicly?

EDIT: I just saw a mention of LWJGL. I would assume things are going great with it, but how is it working out for you guys?

Thanks PhoenixWright! :)

Yep we're using LWJGL, so the game runs in a browser, is cross platform and uses OpenGL. It's fabbo. :D

Tools wise just NetBeans IDE, Java, LWJGL and Binky's trusty old Deluxe Paint. :)

Also we're using SVN for source control.
Respect.

And soon also my money.
:D thank you Bodkin, that's very kind
*sits down at computer table and starts banging knife and fork on either side of his keyboard*

Nom nom nom BRAINS.
OH! ZOMBIES!

This sounds really great.

No, I hear Java is slow, there is no such thing as JIT, and Applets totally suck man! Just look at what big boys are using, Google would never make anything with Java and no MMOs use Java as netcode (Sockets are a complete nightmare in Java, have you not heard?).

Just kidding, I'm a Java dev, I just don't have the guts to do anything cool. I'm really stoked to see you get something this cool out the door.

Now I'll crawl back in my hole and keep writing this really, really dull shit.
But, can we talk to the zombies??

Maybe if I explained to them how much I like my brains inside my skull, rather than inside their stomach, we could all just... get along?
I...I need this. Just knowing it's about to exist makes me need it.

They could compromise and leave half! :D

Don't you dare crawl back in that hole! There is no time like the present to dive in, and these guys sound like they've picked good tools for indie devs to use to reach the largest possible audience the easiest way. I'm totally getting started with LWJGL tonight to see how it is.

If it makes you feel any better I finally got off my ass and am researching a pet project I want to release to a couple of mobile platforms. Sort of a "make the world a better place" kind of thing, maybe... probably not.

I will look at LWJGL, there's never been a time in the history of gaming where one or two folks could do more than today. I think gaming is valuable as leisure and art, and maybe even says something more important about us as a species (hint http://janemcgonigal.com/ listen to her TED talk, which is what first clued me into the fact that there were people like this, I might have a crush on her she is so awesome).
Favorited this topic. Please let me know when it goes out of alpha and into beta - so I can have a taste. And give you some moneys. :)
