Some pretty devastating stuff going on there, it was only 10km from the city so the effects are worse than usual

So hard to resist making the predictable joke about eating too much curry

Didn't the last big one actually open a new fault? This could be the first activity of that one

Mount Doom acting up again?
Christchurch has been having aftershocks since the 7.1 quake on 4 September 2010.

That was was bigger, but 33km down and 30-odd km from the centre of Christchurch. This was 5km down and 10km out.

I want my friends there to move up to Hamilton.

I lolled. To be fair, I have lived in Christchurch for six months a couple years ago. It was the most depressing shithole I've ever lived in... So you may be onto something there....

And yes, I do believe after that first one geologists were warning that this could be the first warnings of a massive one coming... If you stop factoring in HUMAN time and start thinking about it in actual scientific time, well, this is pretty quick. And the worst thing is I have a feeling that there's an ENORMOUS one coming soon - just wish my sister had listened to me about getting the fuck out of there after the first shock a few months ago.

THE ONE RIN.... Oh wait.
Damn. Well at least all of that sweet money coming from The Hobbit being filmed there will help out...?

Free special effects and all... True.
My sister is okay thank fuck. Dad texted me (from Wellington) stating that she's fine but there is no power and no water and that this one is far worse than the first one.

17 confirmed dead so far too...
WTF - it's shot up to 65 now!!! Fuuuuuck.

Yeah, it's a terrible thing that so many died this time.

The quake last year was a bit annoying but this time people were actually killed because one, it took place around lunch time while everyone was racing back and forth (last year's quake happened while they were all inside sleeping) and two, buildings crumbled this time that were loosened from the last one.

I'm on the North Island, the quakes have been happening in the South Island although, here on the North Isle, Wellington is considered to be a big fault line and we've felt shakes from time to time in my city.

This is terrible news.

I know there are many gamer friends in that part of the world, and I truly hope you and your families are safe.
Ooh a magnitude of 6.3, first I thought it was a rating.
But seriously, good luck to all the kiwis and my condolences if you lost somebody.
****, that's terrible indeed. I know how bad those earthquakes could be and I hope it doesn't get worse.
I was watching coverage of it on the news right now. This is a really stupid thing to happen to so many people all at once.

Sixty-Five got killed but there are hundreds stuffing the streets right now because their houses fell down or about to fall down.

I think it's about time they all started migrating lower down the South Island and rebuilding the trading areas down there.

Christchurch has just became too much of a danger zone.
