jamyskis: No it's not. Cracking is legal for private use in Germany (Section 108b of the German Copyright Act). What is illegal is distributing such cracks.
I stand corrected, thanks.

keeveek: By the way, I know cracking legally bought games is illegal in Germany

And personally, I have no desire to skirt around the edges of the law just to use my legally purchased games.
that is kinda cool.
though on further thought its a whole different kettle of fish.

Your Feedback Matters – Update on Xbox One

Don Mattrick, President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, has made a blog post with an update on Xbox One.

Here is an excerpt from his post:

…today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

· An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

· Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

I encourage you to read the entire post for additional details and how Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

Thank you for your continued support of Xbox.

Update: It looks like the news site is having trouble so here is the full text of the post:

There's still some problems though:

- Indies still can't self-publish on the system.

- Kinect is still watching you all the time.

- You still have to pay for XBL Gold in order to access stuff like Netflix on top of the subscription fee for those services as well.

- Also, apparently they had to cut some features alongside the DRM in order to get it done, stuff like Family Sharing.

Family Sharing might still exist for digital purchases.

The rest of your points are things carried over from the Xbox 360. This is a new generation but consoles are still as restricted as possible; Microsoft only backed down from this latest attempt because of the critical response.

To be honest im glad they have done so. its the best thing they could have done to try salvage the situation they have managed to get in. now if they can tweek a few others its a defo preorder for me as it stands i will in time get one but it wont be release i dont think.
its the same stance with the 360 so ill happily accept that. lets just hope they dont change their minds or add these 'rejected' ideas back in in the first update eh?

e: added to that im sure that i read something about kinect allowing to be *fully* disabled, so hmm.

According to their Privacy by Design article the Kinect can be put in Paused mode but it is still physically connected at this point (it's not yet known whether the console can be used without the Kinect attached).

The Kinect's listens as part of the new interaction gimmick; basic functions can be done with just voice and gestures, including putting the console in and out of standby mode. When the console is on standby the Kinect is listening for the "Xbox On" voice command (unless it is Paused, in which case it has to be woken with a controller as with the 360). Having a device constantly listening for a special phrase isn't an entirely new concept; Windows has had comparable functionality for a while now as part of its optional speech recognition support--including constantly listening for a "start listening" command (of course it can be set to never listen while inactive, as with the Kinect).

If it is possible to completely disconnect the Kinect and have the console totally functional that would obviously appease those concerned about snooping, but I don't personally think it's as huge a concern as it might seem on the surface. Even the optional metrics data will be to determine how often it is recognising the words that follow the "Xbox" keyword (since anything said after "Xbox" is assumed to be an intentional voice command) rather than actually transmitting specific examples.

They did not have to but they did it anyway, just to give a middle finger up to the people.

anjohl: So while this is a friendlier, and more diplomatic measure, it is still DRM.

Maighstir: I disagree. It is not even trying to restrict how you use the data once you have it, the installers are complete and do not require fetching additional bits and pieces as part of the installation process, the games are complete and do not require fetching additional data once launched. It is restricting whether or not you may download the installers to begin with - once you have, you're good to go (unlike DRM, which even after that fact tries to make sure you have the rights to use the data).
The state of something being DRM or not is not an opinion. GOG most definitely uses DRM, UNLESS you download every game you purchase immediately. Even then, since part of the service is indefinite future downloads, you could argue that there is no way to avoid the DRM, since GOG's servers are Managing your Digital Rights

You silly.

Incorrect. I am the lone voice of reason. The discomfort you feel? That's called a paradigm shift.

No, it's called constipation. I really need to go poopy.

That's an indisputable fact btw.

So instead of xbox1984 we get xbox one80.
I'll still have a hard time to trust them. What reason do i have to buy xbone instead of ps4.

What reason do you have to buy a PS4? If the answer is "Games", then a PC could probably do the same. If the answer is "Platform Exclusives", the same holds true for XBox One or WiiU or any other platform.
Neogaf at it again. Family sharing is strongly hinted to be just a timed demo.
