Old_Speccer: If developers know they can make extra money from pre owned games then surely they will force Sony to follow suit with the PS4? I really hope not though.
They don't need to force Sony to anything. They already have the ability to lock their shit down. All it takes is infrastructure - systems they should maintain for online DRM schemes. Buuuut they have to pay for it themselves and make sure the whole thing works right. In the case of the Xbox they seem to have access to infrastructure put in place by MS for this purpose.

Dju: I have a hard time wrapping my head around this whole "you can watch Live TV without an internet connection".

Either they're talking about regular TV in which case I really don't see how they could even try to disallow a service they're not directly providing, or they're talking about web-based TV in which case it would be kinda hard to watch it without a connection.

There must be something I'm not getting here...

jamyskis: Well, don't you think it's mightily generous of Microsoft to let you watch TV on your TV even while you don't have internet? ;)
Wait, are you implying I actually got this right?

They're actually saying you are allowed to watch your separately-paid, not-provided-by-them TV even though you don't have internet?

If you exclude the fact that usually when my internet is down so is my TV as they're both coming from the same modem/provider, this is like Burger King telling you you're still allowed to read your newspaper even though you don't have gas in your car...

I give up trying to understand, time for the week-end :-)

That's pretty much the crux of it.

Your cable/TV provider's feed will be plugged directly into the Xbox One via the "HDMI In" socket instead of your TV, and output through the Xbox One via "HDMI Out" to your TV. What you won't be able to do while your internet is out is access the TV guide functionality or HBBTV services.

Do I get the sense that the sheer idiocy and hubris of Microsoft is only just dawning upon you? ;)

McDon: With this shitstorm I may join the darkside next gen...Plus Sony seems to be the only one to give a **** about Europe.
Darkside being... what? You'll be buying an IPad? :)

Or was Sony supposed to be the darkside compared to MS? No, of course you were referring to Nintendo, right?

I can't really tell...

Wishbone: Ah, you gotta love when big corporations cluelessly alienate large portions of their customer base.
avatar
StingingVelvet: Someone pointed out elsewhere that the number of Xbox Live subscriptions is like 60% of the number of Xbox 360's sold. They're writing off a third of their customers.
But that two thirds is like the gift that just keeps on givin' for MS, its a constant revenue stream of pretty much guaranteed XB1 purchasers.

I doubt if MS make much if any money on the 360, I suppose if you take into account how much the early RROD problems cost them, they are probably running at a loss on the console sales alone. i'm sure they consider their XBL customers their "actual customer base" and the other 33% just transient freeloading scum....or words to that effect :)

I wuld have been an ardent 360 user/supporter, but I wont get an XB1. dunno what the PS4 will be like, but I would most likely buy one as a protest against XB1 as opposed to actually "supporting" PS4.

Ah ok... but Sony started grey! And my XBox is black as night!
Grab a raincoat and umbrella, people. Angry Joes second xbone rant has him so angry he accidentally spits on the screen!

Angry Joe rant 2: Joe Angrier
If Sony does not step on stage and say "Online Only No, Used Games Sale's Yes!", they deserve to loose.

Where's the fun in that? :P

Total Biscuit has a much more level headed review of the latest info: Content Patch

Boogie has a frank talk about it as well, along with a Francis rant where Francis breaks his kinect (which is quite sturdy! he had to take a hammer to it before it looked damaged!)

Maybe he is just making fun of some people, I don't know, but still, the few videos I've seen make him no different than a spoiled kid.

jamyskis: While I don't contest that many people do indeed have no internet connection (or a very poor one), it's probably worth noting that the reason many 360 users didn't subscribe to Xbox Live was because they objected to having to pay to play online (or just didn't want to play online).
I never play online but I still signed up for Silver to get some DLC. It surprises me that many people own one and never got a patch or DLC ever.

Of course they're also writing off the entire second-world, which pumps a lot of money into PC games. They just don't care about these fringe markets, they care about the average American 20-something who's willing to pay out the ass for ESPN and Call of Duty. That's where they see their money. Which is fine I guess, but it seems rather limited.

Perhaps those people represent their target zone?

Which brings me to, why do people rage so much that a particular thing does not suit them? It is obviously that they are not in the target zone, thus they should move on to find something else that they might like.
