They're probably baseing it on usage of the 360s backwards compatibility mode apart from halo 2 at launch it wasn't used by most people I expect halo 4 one edition will be announced at e3

I agree, but that is a bullet point on the box that actually SELLS the box, which in turn lets them sell more games. This is part of what made the PS2 such a successful machine; right off the bat, you had an entire library of games playable on the new system alongside the limited launch offerings. People don't want to re-buy their entire collections, they want to keep playing them. What happened between that era and the current to change attitudes about BC is just a travesty of greed. I'm just thankful the attitude expressed by Xbox executives hasn't leaked over into the Windows side of things too much yet.
You mean the BC they basically game up on after only a few games? If they are basing it on that, I would say that has nothing to do with customer desire whatsoever, just their failure to meet those desires.

To be entirely fair about the Backwards Compatibility thing, the did a really, really shoddy job of making sure that the original Xbox's titles were playable on the 360 (starting with a fact that an external hard drive is REQUIRED) and they probably aren't counting downloadable original Xbox titles that are on Xbox Live.

There was hype?
The only reason I know about it at all is because it turned up in Windows Update one day and I wanted to know what the hell it was before installing it. MS need to realise that their tendency to drop software products like stones does tend to put a dent in uptake of future endeavours. Silverlight followed a well trodden path into oblivion.

I'm not trying to explain it from anything other than my perspective. In this case, it's what I have, that's how I use my XBox 360, he asked why I'd give a shit about all the "TV" stuff, that's why. I have no idea whether their marketing will do with the XBox One what Nintendo did with the Wii: convince non-core gamers to buy it (by which I mean, people who don't game a lot in the traditional PC/Console gaming sense). While I have an inkling that's what they're going for I have no idea if the market wants it. They sure as fuck didn't want the Kin, but I still can't figure out why the market really wanted the original iPhone either.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to imply a massive group of buyers would want it for this reason, only that that's why I wanted it over the PS4, because I intend to leverage the gaming, entertainment, and network aspects of the box.

hmmm... what worries me is that it seems indie can not self-publish games on the new Xbox, but must either partner up with Microsoft Studios or a find an suitable third party partner - http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/22/4355306/indie-developers-cannot-self-publish-on-xbox-one.
