silviucc: All time high eh buddy? Google "MSFT share price evolution".

Elenarie: I was talking about after the burst of the bubble in the early 2000s, when Gates left and Ballmer took over.
Still not an all time high and if you look at the dividend per share, that one is also a very, very sad story. Highest point in 2004 at 3.04 $ / share and after that it's all downhill.

Does not mean that they don't make money by the train load but they seem to squander most of it.

Kinect 2 presentation, capabilities, technical details, and other stuff... pretty awesome.
"Videe not found" :(
apologies upfront for this but i had to vent somewhere!
//begin rant
so my thoughts from last night (i wanted to sleep on this one and see what feelings i were left with).

am surprised they said it would be released this year.
Xbox One - what's with the name, seriously it sounds like a kiddies hand held console, i understand why they thought it might be a good idea from the AIO point of view but seriously?!
no lending games, or second console(without using your gt). - might be understandable if games were purely from digital distribution (i.e. download only).
preowned requires an activation fee (thats how i interpreted it). - dont think i need to express my opinions as i feel they will be mutually felt.
always on internet / phone home 24 hours. <- ignoring how i feel about that what about our troops?! or others not everonye has internet you know, let alone stable internet.
no backwards compatibility (best i dont start on this this post will be a LOT longer).
the reveal presentation last night was aimed more at the press and stockists (not gamers, that will be E3) but i still feel they missed a chance to say oh it plas games too, you loyal gamers are important to us.
The above and the press / stockist release presentation feels like a kick in the teeth for us loyal gamers :( - apparently us core loyal gamers mean nothing.

and while i said i wont go on about it i just HAVE to say this: the xboxone (urgh) has the power to emulate thus allowing backwards compatibility (fairly) easily. I say easily as using emulation is easier for them to do rather than adjust hardware/ specs etc). Frankly saying we cant (read WONT) due to different architecture is a lazy cop-out it IS doable and doable well too.

// End Rant.

That download link worked.

Strangely, the video loads and plays correctly on the page in Chrome, but not in Firefox... (other Flash player videos work fine, eg. YouTube. Not sure what's causing the issue.)

I'm surprised so many people bitch about the name. I wouldn't care if it was called "XBox Shit", it wouldn't affect my decision on getting it in any way. Naturally at this point my desire to get one is getting close to zero, but it has nothing to do with the name.

Two biggest news for me personally are the DRM, and the lack of backwards-compatibility. I am genuinely surprised by the latter, both by Sony and MS. If e.g. MS had provided even basic backwards-compatibility, wouldn't that alone have guaranteed that all XBox360 owners would have selected it as their next console, and not PS4? Now both are leaving it open for anyone to freely jump ship. (I hope to PC gaming, but granted that is not for all people...).

Does the new gamepad have some fancy new features? In the pictures it looked the same as the XBox360 one, yet it is incompatible with it.

jamyskis: Also just discovered The Conduit, a (Wii, not Wii U) game that has managed to prove me wrong about first-person shooters and the WiiMote - the WiiMote is superior to joypads for FPS.
I thought i was the only one who had enjoyed The Conduit. Yeah, i agree with you, the Wiimote was great for FPS games, too bad there weren't too many games of the genre for it.

If you can get past it's flaws, Red Steel 1 and 2 are pretty decent.

Elenarie: Blu-ray (surprise to me), 8GB RAM (no idea which kind), x86-64 architecture... my guess is that we'll get more info during the Build conference (since that one is about developers).
If the Durango leaked specs are true (and till now they were completely right) it'll be DDR3 memory, and not DDR5 like the PS4.

I'm rather concerned of my privacy. With this Kinect camera you have a permanent observation from Microsoft at home. If they want they can see whos at home or is using the system and so on. What data they collect and what they do with this informations is not clear, for example if they sell specific data to other firms. Big brother is watching you. I could also install a webcam in my livingroom.

Elmofongo: Is it on par or even more powerful than PS4?
We probably won't know for sure till the consoles are released, but according to the leaked specs (which have been pretty accurate so far), the PS4 will be more powerful.
by the way, new engine in FIFA 14 will be console only. PC version will be crippled once again.

The PS4 uses GDDR5 not DDR5 which does not yet exist. Read wikipedia or similar for differences between DDR3 and GDDR5

Fictionvision: So if you haven't had the thing on for a while and have a crappy connection, there's a good chance you will be waiting while stuff updates before you can play anything.

What a damn mess.
Hmmm, i wasn't aware of that. Looks like it'll be always-online, after all.

True, i stand corrected.

orcishgamer: I don't know what to tell you other than no other consumer device on the market even comes close to supporting what XBox One will as a living room box.
But that's the point: most gamers buy console to play games. The PS4 seems to be focused in games, the Xbox One doesn't. I don't honestly expect people will buy an expensive piece of hardware just to switch canals through voice commands.

Like DaCosta pointed out, most of these features won't even be available outside the US. Microsoft forgot that there are other places in the world outside the US.

You got to hand it to Jim Sterling he's dead right on this one.
It's everything I don't need out of a gaming console. What more couldn't you ask for?

I've been out of the console market for quite some time, but I've been tossing around the idea lately of checking a console out again once these new generations are released. I'm not particularly impressed with either console, but at this very moment, I'm leaning about 100% towards the PS4 over the new Xbox. That could change, but so far some of the 'features' of the new Xbox pretty much guarantee I'll never buy one for any reason, even if I decide not to go with the PS4.

Well, Red Steel 1 was the one that initially convinced me that FPS can't work on the Wii.

Red Steel 2 did a great job making use of the MotionPlus though and was a far superior game to the first one.
