Elenarie: What's wrong with Azure?

nijuu: so did they mention the specs? anyone summarise the announcement?

Elenarie: Blu-ray (surprise to me), 8GB RAM (no idea which kind), x86-64 architecture... my guess is that we'll get more info during the Build conference (since that one is about developers).

Forgot about voice navigation, Kinect capable of 1080p video with 2Gbits data rate.
Is it on par or even more powerful than PS4?

johnki: Using it forces you to be online, even in single-player games.

Elenarie: First time hearing Azure forcing you to do anything... We're talking about the same thing, right? http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/
Wired's feature says that Xbox One's always-on internet connection rumors were not unfounded, but not as draconian as gamers feared. Developers will have the option to create games that use Microsoft's Azure cloud computing service, which Wired postulates could be done to offload certain computing tasks in the cloud rather than processing them on the console. In this instance, the Xbox One would require a connection to the internet – even during single-player experiences.

I don't understand specs too much so please tell me is one more powerful than the other?

Doesn't say anything really... we still have to see how games perform to know which one is better.

Right now, it's kind of impossible to say. Neither tell how many GHz their processors are and a DX11.1 card with 32 MB embedded memory doesn't really tell us much because the last time I had a 32 MB card was on a computer from like 12 years ago. As far as the RAM, though, I think the PS4 wins because it's using GDDR5 as opposed to the Xbox One's DDR3 RAM.

Architectually they are quite similar. We won't be able to say anything too specific about power until somebody gets hands on with dissecting them.

Since everything else lines up, I'd assume the leaked specs of the One GPU being 1.2 TFlops were right also. The CPU should be nearly the same for both. On GAF it was mentioned that the 8 gigs of ram are split 5 for games and 3 for the OS.

So the PS4 will be more powerful. Not huge, but it will be like the difference from a mid range gaming PC to a lower high end one.
So, what's the word on the DRM? After Adam Orth losing his job, is it genuinely always online?

Need to activate each game for it to work. The discs just work as installers essentially.

When installed the game is tied to your xbox live account. Other accounts on the system can play the game also. They will announce a plan to trade in games for credit or whatever later on before launch.

Not always online but you should need to be online at least to register your game.
Is it me or if you already own a good PC and don't care about watching TV, there is absolutely no advantage to get that console at all ?
Xbox Twitter says Wired got it wrong, no fees for used games

Ah, so they have integrated online activation... Good thing I wasn't really interested in the first place.
