I like that you're both from America and this is the conversation you're having.

BlueMooner: Communication with different cultures and different people is how we get exposed to new ideas, broaden our minds, and improve ourselves.
avatar
langurmonkey: And also leads to name calling, hatred, violence, genocide and wars.
Nope, what you're talking about is the absence of communication; in order to communicate you need to be able to listen to others and respect their culture and difference.

xaemar: I love her videos, but it seems that I'm the only one...? Why is there so much hate speech in this thread?
Because not everyone loves her videos, obviously.

BlueMooner: If we all had plenty of games where straight/ bi/ gay men and straight/ bi/ gay women could ALL play the heroic lead, could save the day, could get the high score, and could have the hot sexy love interest of our choice, we'd all be a lot happier. I don't care who other gamers fuck in games, so long as I get someone for me to fuck. When everybody else is happily fucking others in game after game after game and I'm getting jack shit, I'm gonna be an angry panda.
It doesn't even has to be about fucking for me. It just would be nice to be able to choose a female character to play or not have the female character be bound to some specific class.
See Diablo II. I think it should have been possible to have a male and a female version of each class. (No clue if they changed that in Diablo III but my guess would be: No.)
Having a choice would be nice.

I like them a lot.

And what you speak of is not possible. It is a dream. If you do see this kind of stuff happening, you are seeing 2 people with 2 similar cultures communicating.

:) Melting pot of the world and all that. American exceptionalism yes or no?

How's that for making this even more off topic?

LOL no. I guess in your eyes, what I'm saying is not PC. I should probably stop saying such things here or this thread will continue to be an unhappy place.

For some reason, the terms Ramen and Varelse come to mind...
avatar
langurmonkey: Because I don't accept their culture. I only accept mine. I think my culture is superior and will fight to death for my culture. And we are all guilty of this.
No.
Admittedly through my teenage years and maybe even sometimes during my early twenties I might have thought this way. But years have passed, I have lived in different countries, have met many different people and I have learned to accept and in many cases even respect their way of thinking.

So if there was a culture out there that is 100% pro murder, 100% pro rape, misogynist, racist. A culture that has all disputes settled with blood. A culture that sees women as slaves. A culture that accepts animal cruelty. You'd be okay with such a culture? You'd respect it? You'd be able to get along with people from such a culture? If yes to all these questions, you are a very unique individual aka most tolerant person on the planet. 99.9% of people would see this culture as evil and do what is possible to make sure it is erased from the Earth, forever.

Well, it would appear that at least it's not possible with you, which is why this conversation is kind of pointless. If that's truly your conviction, why do you even bother trying to communicate with others? By your own logic, the only reason why you would do that is to start a "war" with them (because you wouldn't expect self-respecting people to take any shit from you, yet you feel the need to tell them that their "culture" is inferior).

So you think I'm just an exception? That you can communicate with everyone else in this world except me. LOL I wish you luck... Yes, I realized communicating with others that are so extremely different from you is pointless. When people from an incompatible culture stop communicating with me, I will stop communicating with them.

langurmonkey: I'm no Kung Fu master so I'm a lot weaker than such a person. If I go up to such a person, insult them for no reason, I fully expect to get my ass kicked. And I deserved it. And I would lose a lot of respect for the Kung Fu master if he just stood there and took my abuse.
As a martial artist myself, I'd lose respect for the guy if he kicked your arse. You use those skills to defend yourself and your loved ones from someone who is getting physically violent (you can use it for sport and fitness as well but that's irrelevant to the situation), not to beat the piss out of someone for being an arsehole. That shit just isn't on and doesn't make a good defense in court when you're up on assault charges.

They don't have to stand there and take it, but there's a lot more that can be done to end/calm the situation before escalating it into physical violence.

Sorry for going off on a tangent (like it matters at this point, hehe) but I felt I had to step in there and give a different perspective to that particular hypothetical.
