Mivas: The movie seems to be usually liked by people who are disgusted by The System™, regardless of their sex. In my experience, of course.
Yeah, on some level, this is "Fuck the System: The movie", but you can't deny it's mostly if not only targeted at males.

It's all about men being tricked by the system to stop being True Masculine Male.

I like the movie but for me it was about madness and (male) self-delusion...
...maybe I should watch it again. It was along time ago that I saw it.

Hey ! It's about finding your animal of power !

In my opinion it's about "Do you think you are in charge ?" on a tremendous number of levels. I consider it a "Male" problematic, because I make a parallel with the "pater familias" role ... but nowadays many women have that role sooooooo ...

HMDK: Well, bye bye baby. Try for reading comprehension next time. But what the shit, I'll sing you a little lullaby once again: There's money to be made from more than one audience at a time.

keeveek: Assets are not unlimited. If a company is willing to use 100mln dollars on a game, it will be one game only, to appeal to the most profitable market. And when they do it and start counting profits, they will rather make another game similar to the other than risk the money they have on something new. That's a problem, because I would like big companies to experiment more, but hey.

In a real world, you can't eat a cookie and have a cookie.
You see that in any profit driven artistic endeavor. It's why the so called 4 quadrant block movies are so popular with executives. They've got broad appeal and generally a lower budget than other options, which means that they're much less risky than more narrowly targeted films that require a bunch of moves during filming.

BTW, is it worth watching the most recent video or is it the same misogynistic and misandristic crap that the first was?
And yet another thread falls to the Off Topic power of the GOG community. xD

It's more of the same, but with more recent games this time.

JMich: If they've read Calvin and Hobbes, tell them that the main character is a grown up Calvin. Can link you the article explaining the theory if you wish.
I admit I don't know the comics at all. And I suspect that it isn't well known here. However you got me interested. Please, share the article. I will read it up as soon as I catch up on the comics itself.

Hmm, I wouldn't put it into same category as Transformers or James Bond but yeah, I can see where you are coming from.

What does all of that have to do with men or masculinity? I always steered clear of Fight Club because I mistook it for a simple action movie about guys fighting, until I saw the error of my ways and realized it's something much more clever and universal. Granted, the story is told from a male perspective and there are mostly men in it, but to me it's not a "guy's movie" (or book) but both a psychological thriller and a tongue-in-cheek commentary about modern society in general, not about men. Actually, I think I've read that after the movie Chuck Palahniuk was approached by lots of people who thought this was real and wanted to join a Fight Club, and not a few among them were women.

It's mostly because men are portrayed as money making machines without any purpose in life until they find it in beating the shit out of each other and finally feel freedom? And the only significant woman there is a fuck toy? There is no female fight club in the movie, not even a hint of it. And it's not really surprising, because it depicts today's men going back to their "roots" where other males were impressing each other and proving their masculinity by fighting and killing each other in their caves.

I agree though, this movie is much more about than just that, but most of the plot is about white collar men being PISSED OFF.

I agree with her to the point that the propaganda is in excess and I'm also very aware of how entertainment, rather intentionally or unintentionally, psychologically molds - not ONLY females - but growing males as well to believe that they are at the mercy, dependency of or in need of salvation from an external agent to themselves.

Most people believe this washing or conditioning can be avoided simply by turning blind eye to organized religions and cults but those organized religions and cults still play strong influence in the story material we all digest from every direction.

And yet as I agree with her that it is in excess, I still appreciate the relationships that some developers have put in their stories like the ongoing Peach & Mario saga even though it is a spiritual evolvement from having to run up scaffoldings to rescue Pauline.

So I don't believe that it is to eradicate it all together but to moderate it in respect to developing female children and keep in mind that you don't want to continue on with wave after wave of people growing up believing themselves powerless and at the mercy of others (if you're reading this from the Middle East disregard).
