One of the most famous space simulation saga gets its appearance on GOG.com. Choose your fate in the Wing Commander universe!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/wing_commander_privateer]Wing Commander: Privateer is another classic gem from the critically acclaimed Origin Systems. The famous Wing Commander universe serves as the setting for this exceptional Elite-style game. It draws its concept and inspiration from this classical masterpiece and elevates it to a whole new level. An entire galaxy is there to explore or find a good trade route, get rich, and pimp out your ship. ;)

Be a pirate, a merchant, or a bounty hunter serving the highest bidder. Make life-long friendships and earn sworn enemies that will track you down and attempt to wipe you out. At the end of the day the only thing that counts is your Credit Balance.

Galimatias: Our version of Wing Commander: Privateer doesn't include the Righteous Fire add-on.

Gonadius: Curses! Ahh well. I'll be holding off buying it then till ... it does have it...
Same here.

Metro09: Probably because EA wants to sell the expansion separately for another $6.
If we see this we'll know that gog has sold out.

tacossmellgood: yeah, it's a story-driven flight simulator. i've never heard wing commander referred to as a third-person shooter, although it's technically an accurate statement.
"More than a third person shooter" is referring to the other sci-fi games here on GOG that have a story, but primarily seem to be third person shooters. Outcast, for example.

Seriously GoG, are you rifling through my game collection and picking the ones that I already own? :(

Great game though; recommended, even without the add-on.

nondeplumage: I have to wait until Monday to pick this up. But I'm so happy, finally a great science fiction title that's more story based and more than a third person shooter.
Funny. I tried explaining how the dialogue causes the plot to diverge and characters to change in WC III to a friend and their question to me was "so it's like Mass Effect?" =/

The friend, to GOG they must come. Better gaming, they shall have. Hurrrrm.

BarryMC: Same here.
In 1994 I've bought FDD version of WC:Priv, in 1997 - CD version with RF expansion and SpeechPack. I'm ready to buy it again but I'll pay for FULL game only. I'll wait for RF then... and for now I will stay with AsciiSector ;-)

EDIT: Oh! And I hope for "Privateer 2: The Darkening" with HD movies (without "stripes") :-D

oh, you were referring to the sci-fi theme. got it.

incidentally, i just realized, it's a first-person shooter(wing comm), not a third-person one. lol.
there will be a really fun 3rd-person sci-fi shooter with a cool story and lots of secrets coming soon. (crusader)
got 2 copies instantly!
never played it,but looks so interesting!

EndlessKnight: Besides the other WC titles and Strike Commander, I hope GOG/EA are able to eventually re-release "Wings of Glory".
And Pacific Strike.
Will there be Priv 2? I would definitely buy that one. Loved it back in the days.

Yes! Thanks for the reminder!

It's a shame they didn't do a WWII sub game with the same sort of storyline elements as were in these other series'.

I can't wait for Privateer 2, Christopher Walken's "mushroom treatment" line was priceless, the old WC games are classics but I personally like the games from WCIII and on ....

Except for Wing Commander 5 .... GOG, I will take it as a personal affront is you guys attempt to acknowledge WC5 as a video game by selling "it".
I can't remember - does this require a joystick or was there a mouse/keyboard flight option?

EDIT: I see that it doesn't require one - but will DOSBox recognize my USB joystick?
