Longcat: Mkey. That might be true for UAKM and Pandora, but I think Overseer supported hardware acceleration:
I'm buying them all anyway, even though I already have them set up from cd. Hopefully, the more nasty bugs will be gone.
avatar
phanboy4: Yeah, that may be true of Overseer, which is also the most problematic one I hear, since it's not DOS-based. We'll see how that one ends up working.

The cd-version of Overseer works pretty well on xp for me, I just wish the released the DVD video version, but Overseer is listed as a 2.3gig game, so unless they did some video compression, it's the regular one we're getting:P

Knowing that there's a superior version and not getting it is a bit of a bummer :-(

Wishbone: Say "only" again with a straight face, why don't you? I'd like to try these games, but I am NOT paying $9.99 for a game from 1994.

Wishbone: Hmm, I seem to have hit a nerve here. I realise in hindsight that my words sounded harsher than they were meant.

There. You got a + for that. And I think this is what really makes this forum/community shine. People that understand that an argument is just that - arguing not hating. You're in the right to speak your mind, and have your opinion, but manner of speech is so important :).

Woohoo! I never played the first two, but I remember Under the Killing Moon very fondly. I remember it had this loading the screen that drew the level by squares, at the time it was very cool. Funniest thing, I swear, just this weekend I was thinking of this game and thought to myself, "I should go to GoG.com and see if it's on wishlist and vote for it.", and now you have it - you're freaking awesome! :D

Wishbone: Hmm, I seem to have hit a nerve here. I realise in hindsight that my words sounded harsher than they were meant. I did not mean to imply that GOG are misers, or that their games are overpriced. It's just that, in comparison with the other games here, $9.99 is definitely the wrong price point out of the two possible choices. I'm also aware that the prices are not set by GOG, but by the rights holder.
And yes, it may be a fantabulous game, but I've never played it, so I don't know if I'll like it. Also, I still have around 10 games from here that I haven't even played yet.
So let me rephrase the above along more diplomatic lines: "Comparing the price of this game to the other games in the catalog, and taking into account that I have no prior knowledge of the series, and since I already have more games than I have time to play, it would require poor judgement on my part to invest in this game at this price, right now."

Considering it's sold up to 35 US$ on eBay, $9.99 seems like a reasonable price to me.
When you discuss the pricepoint on GoG, you'd also have to take into account the man-hours the GoG staff has to use in order to prepare the game to run acceptably on XP / Vista. The expense faced here has to be added to the sum total and a sensible economic forecast of risk vs. reward when it comes to pricepoint vs. sales.
Behind all the apparent goodwill and anti-drm idealism, GoG has to run a business that turns a profit in order to continue providing this service. What this means in english is; sorry, we can't have every game for $5.99.
Anybody remember the Chameleon in UAKM? ;)

Yes. I think it was the single thing in the game I didn't like.

Krankor: Looking at the screen shots, this reminds me of a game one of my mates wrote years ago.
Psycho Killer - It was an Amiga 32 release only (I think) and it was seriously slagged off by most amiga mags at the time. The funny thing is one of my other mates played the Psycho Killer and all I ever remember about the review was the magazine saying the psycho killer ran like a drag queen.
Poor bloke, he never really ever lived that down.
Here's the only link I could find for the game...

Still, he did make one or two good games in his time, mainly 'Bored of the Rings' for the old 48k Speccy.

thornton_s: It's not Fergus Mcneil is it ? i know he worked on a lot of the delta 4 interactive fiction games.
The game is also mentioned on his website about half way down

They really did slate it. (review below)

Yeah, it was Fergus ok. He was actually a mate of a mate so to speak. Charlie Watts was infact the Psycho Killer, but I met Fergus through him. :)

Why ever not?

I guess I thought it was a bit over board, a bit too fantastical. Even for a mutant-infested film noir future.
Tex Murphy rules! Simple as that!
I am so delighted that these games are on \ are coming to GOG.
$10 for a game like Killing Moon is fantastic. I would happily pay double that. And to get the avatars and soundtrack as well is so awesome. Those people that don't like the price have obviously never played it, but remember, you are getting 4 cds worth here.
I love the combination of real actors, and fmv style backgrounds. The GOG team have worked wonders here, giving us extras as well.
Thankyou.

I've never played Tex murphy games before (never heard of them, but thanks to GOG now i can fill that void) but i think that those who complaint about the price have a reason to do so, myself i'm fine with this pricing, after all it's an pretty old game.
I'd pay 50$ for the original fallout games if i had to, but still prefer to have the best deal possible.
Hmm, never even noticed the soundtrack, silly me. For the game and that alone, easily worth the $10. Thanks GOG. :)

The price of cds or the download are neglectible. Nor does the number of cds say anything about how good a game is. And for me $9.99 is on the expensive side for a 15 year old game, for $5.99 it would be a no brainer. But seeing all these positive reviews, I might change my mind and buy it anyway.
