KEgstedt: Never understood what was so special about Total Annihilation (seemed like a pretty generic RTS compared to the distinctive styles and gameplay elements of C&C and Warcraft/Starcraft), but I guess it's still comparatively speaking a legitimately good old game and therefore a worthy additon to the GOG catalogue.
Well, if you've never tried it, I can understand why you say that. Truth is, it is quite different than that. It was very well balanced when released. For instance, most ARM units feature inaccurate fast firing guns, high speed, and light armor. Most Core units feature heavy armor, slow movement, and concentrated firepower. In fact, some Core units are so large, they cannot be air transported (e.g. Sumo, Krogoth, et al.) Definately worth a shot if you have a sixer and a weekend to spare.
I think part of the long life that it had was because it was one of the first moddable games.
