It’s a Steal!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.
Congratulations GOG, this is a triumph!

I look forward to playing it.

gmx: hmm, weird minimum system spec - a little bit high? no windows 7? I'll wait for info about stability

TomNook: The game page says it's compatible with Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit).

Always THE NUMBER ONE GAME I could not wait to see on Gog., even more so than System Shock 2 or Torment or ...anything. THANK YOU for finally bringing us this great!

GOG.com: THIEF™ GOLD
lol, why capital letters?

Even trademark of this game is not "THIEF" - this game is named simply "Thief".

Look at the bottom of this page: http://www.thief4.com

so?
WOOT!!! Insta-buy!

Same here. It's been a while since GOG's home webpage made me throw my hands up in the air and shout, but this release did it. I haven't been this excited about a game release since Planescape Torment appeared on GOG.

For those of you making up lame excuses to not buy this game immediately, keep this in mind: copies of Thief Gold used to sell on eBay for upwards of $100-150 each. TDP was great, but Gold added even more to the package. Thief Gold gave you the ability to create your own levels, share them with others, and play theirs. The fact that Thief was no longer sold in Gold version was a crime against the modding community, but now, IT'S BACK.

bazilisek: Just good old fashioned stealing. Still, the first game can be very scary at times; the sequel lost that.
As I recall, they purposely threw that out. I don't remember if this was their design plan or was it because of the reception from some players.

so?
We should probably call it Th1ef, then.
Good game, but far from perfect. I finished it once and don't intend to go back to it because of the monsters / zombies / creatures from hell. Thief 2 might be more interesting to me.
Sweet excellant game. Will get at some point in the future.

I think it was the feedback, yeah. I was sad to see them go, though; the Hammerhaunts are one of my strongest gaming memories ever. Only the third game got that particular balance quite right, but was sadly lacking in other areas.

But, damn, the Hammerhaunts. Join usssss. Join usss now.

bazilisek: Then you want the sequel, Thief 2: The Metal Age. They listened to the feedback, and there are almost no zombies in that one. Just good old fashioned stealing. Still, the first game can be very scary at times; the sequel lost that.
Aren't there some robots in Thief 2?
Excellent. I'll pick it up to replace my non gold ye olde disc version in a few days once I get paid. The only steal in that process is that I should be paid more :)

keeveek: Aren't there some robots in Thief 2?
There are, yes, and cameras, too. But they mostly serve as security systems in the rich houses you're looting, and there are always regular human guards as well. They're not as prevalent as zombies in the first game.

Aren't Hammerhaunts present in all three games?

Meh. Looks like a mediocre game. Appears too dark from the screenshots, the graphics look like crap, and why does the main character rob graveyards? Haven't we enough first person shooters already? Pass.
