It’s a Steal!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold]THIEF™ GOLD is the definitive version of Thief: The Dark Project, the first game that introduced sound and light (or silence and shadows) as stealth gameplay mechanics, so there is no way you can sneak past this gem on GOG.com for just $9.99.

Garrett, the main protagonist in Thief trilogy, is one of the gaming’s most appealing hidden anti-heroes. Sure, he’s a thief (and a killer!), but he makes it up with sarcasm, intelligence, and rougish appeal. Thief’s surprisingly elaborate storyline throws Garret between a rock and a hard place where he needs to restore the political and magical balance of the city by using silence, stealth, and thievish skills as a weapon. The chaotic Pagans and technological Hammerites are preparing to tear the city apart in their battles with each other, and it seems that only a little judicious theft can keep these titani forces from clashing. No matter who's the employer and who's the victim, he plans to stay neutral and is always upholding his beliefs with a simple key principle: always get the loot.

In THIEF™ GOLD, you have a wide range of equipment at your disposal: a blackjack, a sword, lockpicks, holy water, explosive mines, flash bombs, and seven types of arrows to assist you on 12 treacherous missions in a steampunk-medieval metropolis called the City. The game’s FPS mechanics are a big change from then-traditional DOOMlike “shoot and run” to the unthinkable "it's quite amazing how much fun it can be to avoid action". The game received much critical acclaim (92! Metascore), with reviews ranging from “immersive gaming experience”, through “bloody good”, to the quite expected “my favorite game of all time”.

You don’t have to get your hands dirty to get THIEF™ GOLD from GOG.com’s secret stash for $9.99.
Such a fantastic experience and super imaginative game Thief is.

However not all changes Thief: Gold brought to The Dark Project were good, in my opinion the latter was the best version.

Sure you do you idiot, I strapped lungs of your former co-worker right here behind you. Now get back to fixing that hull breach.
Soooo, when are you going to actually release a Square Enix game instead of these Eidos games?

They are Square Enix games, not GoG's fault they bought Eidos :-P Anyway, I think most of these are wanted by far more people than Final Fantasy titles, so they're first.
Well, for me the whole point of a GOG release would be that it just worked without me having to jump through hoops, install patches etc. I can already get it running, but I'd rather have that GOG 'install and play' experience with it. Hopefully the Win7 64bit issues get ironed out.

I wishlisted that thing so hard it landed in my cart. Will get it with the next paycheck. I never knew Square held the rights to so many awesome stuff... Thanks for joining GOG, Square!
I hear people are having trouble installing the GoG version of Thief Gold. The following instructions work with the original T1/TGold and T2 disks for win7 and Vista. They may be helpful for GoG's version as well:

1. Make sure you have the game patched to the latest version. (I hope GoG already did this, lol)
2. Install DDFIX. This should let the game work with most modern graphics cards. This thread will walk you through installing it: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449
3. You will need to tell the game to use only one core of your processor. I'll link again to save space: http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/

After following these steps I was able to get Thief working. If you do run into any problems, you can get help on the TTLG forums which are still quite active: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=153
That's the legacy gaming part of the forum, but the thief section is here http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=83

I also recommend installing Darkloader to manage any mods you might install. It can also do step 3 for you: http://www.thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=272

i would also suggest restarting your computer immediately after installation. i've never had to do that with a GOG game before, but when I did it with Thief, all of my problems were resolved
First game I had to buy on available. Deus Ex nearly got it, but I have a digital copy from some other service, so I can wait a bit. GOG, once again you prove to be the best damn digital distribution service on the planet, and you have my undying love regardless of if you f**k it all up in the future! ;)
Thanks for all the support. I bought it. How I could not ? :)
I got wihout freeze further in the tutorial that I have ever managed before.
So I can confirm that the GOG release of this game works on W7 64 - videos I did not get - but I did not try anything more than installing the game right out of GOG. :)
So pardon the unbeliever :D :D

Nice, I will definitely get this at some point!
Yeah, thats a great release.

Anyone knows whats the difference between the gold version and the normal one? Im asking because i already bought the original Thief from Gamersgate, but it isnt the gold edition. Maybe i can use my saves from the normal edition on the gold edition? If this is possible im definately buying it.

wargnthoi: Awesome!
It was always a pain in the arse to install this game on a modern computer so I will definitely buy it again.
Damn right. I don't even remember how I got my Thief 2 to work last time, but I do remember it involved a lot of trial and error.

Gold includes a few bonus levels if I'm not mistaken.
