The Manhole, being a kind of "Myst for kids", is a nice way to get young people into computer games. No blood, no violence, just a surreal world waiting to be explored.
[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_manhole_masterpiece_edition]The Manhole: Masterpiece Edition is an exploration-oriented game and the first title made by Cyan Worlds, who later on created the famous Myst series. Created with the younger audience in mind, there is no way to actually "lose" in this game. The main protagonist is a little boy who lifts a manhole cover, only to uncover a magical beanstalk leading to wacky locations both above and below. The game has no ending as such - it's all about exploring and having fun, as discovering its wacky world's every secret becomes a goal in its own right.
So creepy....
What?
Ah a (little) kids game. Don't think I'm that nostalgic, but I'll link it to those I know with young children. It may even get the adults to stay with the other titles in the catalogue here.
Interesting to see this age-group expanded upon though. As you tend not to see a lot of it on DD services aside from a few casual 'family' games.
Good games to play with younger children, and have a bit of a good time together.
Kinda "Myst for kids" you say? So I actually might have a chance here.

You mean as opposed to original Myst, where, as much as I am ashamed to admit so, I was walking on a weird island with no clue whatsoever as to what the hell's going on? :D

I think the point of Myst being abandoned like that is to freak you out a little. Or maybe to make you focus more on the strange objects all around. You don't really find out what's going on until the very end, then you go "ohhhhh THAAAT's why I did all that!"
I never played RealMyst, but I suspect it might make things harder because at least when you had the static images you could waggle the mouse around until you saw the pointer change.
Will be picking this up for the munchkins. Thanks GOG!

Oooh this.
OK enough OT for me. :)
I thought people play games to get away from learning.
