Only in such a way that there have to be certain "nodes" in the story, i.e.: things that have to happen if you want it to unfold further. The beauty of it being a game is that a lot of interactions are totally optional and sometime the solutions are mutually exclusive. There is no "correct" or "better" way to go through it, although the plot stays roughly the same...
I may be getting a little off topic but there is some unique sense of freedom, which is precisely what draws me to computer games... The only thing that offers a greater amount of choice (while still being plot-driven) are RPGs (you know; as in: storytelling games).
My point is - simply exploring the world and immersing yourself in it is refreshing. A way of smelling virtual flowers...
If there are times when you feel lost and confused... That's probably intentional (and so does your character !). It's a huge and complicated universe we're talking about - our female protagonist may know a lot but she obviously isn't omniscient.
You have the Journal and Dreamfall even gives you a dialog archive - most of the time you shouldn't get lost unless you are purposefully kept in the dark. Also - those lots of little details are exactly what makes the game great - it allows for replayability. Once you beat the game once you already know the basics and can focus on the datails even more.
"Dreamfall: Chapters" are meant to clear everything up, though we'll have to wait quite a while for the game to even get into development.
As for TLJ 1 and 2... I simply enjoy them for that they are. I don't care what they could have been; in my eyes - they're great as it is.

Good to see a great game like this added to the collection. :) Would buy if I didn't already have a disc copy.
I hope Dreamfall will come to GoG eventually, I still haven't picked that one up.

Very nice. I'd actually considered buying a retail copy of this several times over the past six months or so, but since I had (and still have) a backlog of games I still needed to play I kept putting it off, figuring I'd grab it once I had more time or if a particularly good deal on it came up. Well, I consider any high quality game released on GOG to be a very good deal, so I'll finally be pulling the trigger on buying this game. And here I was thinking I might actually be making some progress on shrinking my queue of games I'd bought but still need to play. Oh well, that's an issue I can live with.

I know they don't have a real choice, but GOG needs to try and concentrate on getting games not already on Steam. Other than a few die-hard DRM protesters, most people here will be using Steam along with GOG and have bought this game already.
GOG should be more about the Might and Magic type stuff, rather than games on Steam for years.
That's just my opinion though. I would LOVE to support GOG, but I can't rebuy games I already own.

But if the price is competitive with steam's then there are more options for buyers. : )
I'm glad for this release, and I hope Dreamfall is added too, not only because it's a great adventure game, but because its retail version had Starforce on it originally.

I download from Steam only when i can't do otherwise (generally because of the price). The Orange box for 9.99$ was awesome and Braid with a 66% discount i couldn't ignore.
But generally i don't buy from them, because i hate to have to launch Steam each time i want to play one of their games. Each time it makes me wonder "and when Stem will be closed, what will happen to my games i legally own?".

Its #4 spot would beg to differ. ;)
Steam is very popular, but there's a lot of people that don't like it. Plus, as mentioned in this thread, GOG's version works better on modern OS' (and will on future ones).
Conversely you could say Steam should ignore older games and/or ones not in GOG's catalogue.

I don't know how GOG version works better - I played TLJ from Steam on Vista x64 and had no problems whatsoever.
Anyway. This is one of the best games I've played and I'd definitely buy another copy if it wasn't $9.99. Waiting for a promo then...
