It arrives!

Syndicate, the classic isometric game where you play to rule the world, lands on GOG.com today for just $5.99!

Played from a top-down isometric view, Syndicate presents the player with a simple goal: world domination. As a “Marketing Director”--or, more accurately, a hitman--for a new syndicate, the player will need to lead a squad of four operatives to infiltrate, capture, search, and destroy their way to the top of the corporate food chain. Critically acclaimed for its gameplay, splashy graphics, and deep customization options, Syndicate is one of those good old titles that every gamer should have on their shelf.

If you're a fan of games, fun, or taking over the world, this is definitely right up your alley, so pick it up now.

CycloneJack: It doesn't explicitly confirm or deny, and I have had some previous issues with EA in the past, so I tend to lean towards caution. If someone who has purchased Syndicate on GOG can confirm that EA's Origin is NOT required to be installed, then I'll be a happy camper.
Bought, installed, played and finised first mission just 1 minute ago.

No Origin is required.
Well it's good to see that the user reviews are as well-researched and unbiased as usual.

Magnitus: GOG patch their games to the latest official version.
Sadly, you are very wrong, Sir.

Awesome, thanks. Heading to the shopping cart. :)
Glad to see it made it, though will have to wishlist for now...
Oh lovely, time to go back in time :) Great game and great memories :) It's persuadertron time, baby :D

dude, you actually checked? i mean... really?

EA games and their EULA have been on GoG for quite a while, and the only games that ever needed Origin are some - not even all - of EA's very latest games (FIFA 12, BF3, NFS:TR, ME3).

i mean no offense to the guy who misinterpreted the EULA there, but i did facepalm hard...

Waaaaaaah! My first insta buy! The Wallet and the GOG have aligned!:>

i don't doubt that there may be unpatched games on GoG, regrettable as it would be. but i'd figure those are the exception, not the rule. unless you can come up with tons of examples, the statement that GoG editions are generally patched to their latest version holds true.

CycloneJack: I would consider the requirement of singing up for, and installing, EA's Origin platform as a requirement to play to be a form of DRM.

If this is not the case, and EA's Origin platform is NOT required, then I will gladly and eagerly purchase this title, as it is one of the more memorable, enjoyable and entertaining games I have played.

SLP2000: Higher resolution is always easier on the eyes. After doing a bit more research, I think the Amiga version looks warmer and "fuzzier", and without the dithering effect that makes things look more detailed than it really is (solid background on the Amiga version is dithered on the DOS version). Looking at the Amiga longplay on youtube, I still like the way the Amiga looks a bit better. The DOS version looks clean but flat, while the Amiga version looks more vibrant due to different coloring and more contrast.

It was the first I noticed when starting the game, and it wasn't that long since I played the Amiga version on in WinUAE (no filtering).

The sound is the same though, thankfully, Syndicate wouldn't be the same without the samples and raw weapon sounds.

And did you see someone saying Origin platform is required?

EA has the same EULA for all their games. Some of them require Origin, and others not.

That's why they said "may be required to access the Software"

may doesn't mean must

StarEye: That exactly what it looks like. The resolution seems decent, but that doesn't help much if the game doesn't look as good. Still, it works flawlessly (the game never did have particularly smooth scrolling, don't think the Amiga version was much better there), so I can't complaint.

It's really a testament to how fantastic the Amiga was, running a game from '93 on hardware from '85 (although the A500 was released in '87) and still being the best version.

SLP2000: We already know that the developers of this game thought DOS version as superior to Amiga version.

Most of them, yes. But my reply was to aware forum users that not all are patched - it is not GOG's 100% rule to have game patched even if official patches are easy available to download. Main problem is that GOG very often uses executable files from the "shady part of internet" and not all such exes are patched to last version.

Do you take only unpatched or missing documentation and broken will also do?

Also, Earth 2140 is the latest version. The latest version being Windows edition with NO AI. Slight oversight for a SP-only game.

Exactly, the EULA is EA current standard EULA they use in every piece of software they put out nowadays.

And, as I said countless times before, for consumers EULAs are less binding than my spit. People are getting paranoid here ...
