If you like Science Fiction, look no further. You can't possibly go wrong with these two addictive Sci-Fi games, each with a cult following of its own.

First, there was [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/star_control_1_2]Star Control, a turn-based strategy game with an addictive real-time arcade combat mode called Mêlée. This was essentially a relatively close-quarters duel between two spaceships. The most impressive thing about this mode, and the game in general, was that, somehow, the game's creators managed to make the dozen or so race-specific ship types completely different from each other, yet at the same time balanced.

Star Control 2 added even more races and ships to the fray, while retaining balance in the Mêlée mode, but changed the underlying gameplay considerably. The sequel was turned into more of a space-faring adventure game, with quests, diplomacy and character progression in the form of ship upgrades. The gameplay is as addictive as ever and the storyline is both good and believable, with tons of memorable characters, races and humor that will make you go back to this game again and again.

Kunovski: looking at the screenshots and I have absolutely no idea what is this game about...

is it a shooter? a trading strategy? :)
It's about happy campers.

-edit- You also learn that humans are rather ugly creatures.

snap-d: Regardless - do you not agree that a game of this quality belongs on GOG?

And that doesn't include SC1.....

Smannesman: SC1 is just.. not interesting.
Even back when it was released it wasn't that interesting, it's like Street Fighter.. only interesting because it spawned a great sequel.
SC2 should be on GOG, but for free like Tyrian.
I agree with most of your points. But Tyrian was pretty meh, whereas SC2 is an absolute classic. I would still want (and buy) the early Command and Conquers if they were on GOG, even though they are free elsewhere, just because I support GOG and want to see all the old classic PC games on here. So even though I have The Ur Quan Masters, I will be buying this pack from GOG too......
Never heard but I should check it one day.

It's my favorite game of all time (SC2, not 1), but there's really little appeal in this bundle.
If it was the entire trilogy for $5.99 (although SC3 sucks) I would be interested.
But now it has nothing to recommend it over the free and improved UQM version.
Some cool artwork or something would be very much appreciated.
Lowers head in shame... never played these games (I think).
Will add to cart now.
:D! Oh what a nice little surprise this is! I never completed SC2 but it's a fantastic game once you wrap your head around how it works. I'll definitely be buying this. Thanks GOG!

Smannesman: [...]
I agree with you, that game is great and it defiantly is a Good Old Game. But the package is just "meh". I will buy it, because I played the original as a pirated copy (and I want to support GOG), but GOG should do something to "spice" this up.

More it's more like: Buy SC 1 and get SC 2 for free!
Star Control 2 is a game everyone needs to play.

If this is the kind of quality we can expect from the new Atari-releases, I'm beginning to understand the hype.

Smannesman: Cute, but why would I buy it when the superior remake can be downloaded for free?
I was wondering the same thing. Gog still could have made a commercial agreement with the Ur-Quan Masters project since it's under a creative commons license. Just because it's noncommercial, shareAlike cc doesn't mean that a commercial agreement can't be made. I would think that being creative commons would make it easier to work on the game to fix bugs and make it playable on modern systems. I doubt that's what happened though since Atari is involved.

Totally agree. First, Alone in the Dark series, then Star Control series. What next?

I call for the hero one - Little Big Adventure series .......!

The first one is straight-up strategy, IIRC.

As for SC2, it's a space shooter, adventure, RPG, puzzle, resource gathering strategy, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. It's one of those games that's nigh impossible to pin down to one genre.

But, chalk me up on the crowd of feeling like while it looks nice being on GOG's catalog, the free version is already so good (and semi-official) that it's kind of hard to recommend dropping money for it unless you happen to really be itching to play SC1.
There's nothing to make me buy this. SC1 doesn't interest me at all and I've already played, loved and completed The Ur Quan Masters. I seriously can't believe Atari have the gall to try and sell a game was was basically made freeware by it's authors (I know the complicated history, I'm just simplifying).

Oooooh!! Star Control AND Star Control 2! This has to be added to my shopping cart immediately!
Yes, I still have the original SC1 & 2 bundle (complete with poster), and yes, I also have UCM, but I'm still dropping six bucks on this package for the following reasons:

1) SC2 is one of the best "shooter" games ever made and if the creators might get more of my money, fine.
2) GOG is a kick-ass distributor and deserves my continued support.
3) Atari put its neck out to redistribute its old games, so I don't mind rewarding them for it.
4) I can't imagine all of GOG's work on these games resulting in something I wouldn't enjoy playing.
5) It's only six, frigging bucks for two great games and I'm not a "Scrooge."

You're giving Atari your money. Toys For Bob made this game...
