zebber: Out of curiosity, why Deus Ex?

It's all about pulling everything together towards the perfect kill. The mechanics are different by a lot, but it has the same kind of methodical feel.
Interesting that I keep going into my local Game store and seeing 3 games for £10 offers. The games offered usually the ones on sale here! Sniper Elite is another one the store is trying to offload and GOG pick it up too. Just a co-incidence, but most of the games in the offer I was interested in, GOG sell and I'd bought them here first. Sniper Elite is not one I've thought about getting though.

Since the one seems to lead to the other, does that GAME happen to have Master of Magic on sale, too?
I kid, I kid...
Good game, bros, but it does kinda fall apart toward the end when, you know, playing as a sniper should stops being an option and you're forced to resort to run-n-gunnin' as waves of bad guys spawn coming at you.

whodares2: Dammit you guys! A little advanced warning would earned you guys a sale.
I just bought this game on steam a week or so ago when it was $1.99.

Delixe: It's not the first time Steam have done a sale just before GOG have launched a title on here. Valve are not above the odd dirty little trick.

I believe it. This isn't the first time it has happened to me. It also happened with Il-2.
All I'm saying is if GOG had just pust this in the "upcoming" area then they would have had a bit more money from me. Surprise releases are great and I enjoy them immensely but without ANY idea of what is coming out in the near future gives me absolutely no reason to wait on buying a title elsewhere.
I was not thrilled with the release, but this thread has convinced me to wishlist. I like the slow, stategic shooters. Remember real quake?
Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!!
DAMN you Steam!
Okay, I'll buy this version when it goes on sale and uninstall my current one afterwards. =)
I have it from steam... i hate it.
the enemies just suddenly "pop up" arround you, making this completely non realistic, they know where you are regardless of the noise you make, it seems to take a combination of position and noise and some random check to let an enemy know you are behind them, or right in front of them.
One very very simple example, in the first level, there is a room that is attacked by a tank, if you enter using the most direct room, you might be surprised by the tank getting there, but if you go through the long route (the other door) where you can see many blocks to each side, you will see that once you enter suddenly a tank gets inside from literally *nowhere*
The same happens with several key enemies, they are just placed there *after* you go trhough someplace or the other.

Enemies do not know where you are unless you make enough noise or are spotted. Even if you fire one shot they will not know exactly where you are but they may search where they heard the shot. You have to time your shots to the sounds of the environment and the paths of the enemies. Getting multiple kills is important to remain stealthy. If they start searching for you, you need to move to another location to avoid being found. It's not impossible and I beat this game on hard. If they know you are behind them then you need to sneek. Also the tank is already in the level and only activates based on a script.
This is a good game guys. You need to think tactical and not rush. It's not impossible to beat on any difficulty. You got to have a different mindset when playing this compared to a fps.

Nice release. I already have it, but it's worth picking up if you're a patient player. You REALLY have to take your time and scout out as much as you can beforehand. Single scenarios can literally take hours to play.

This.
Well said, and yes it's a good game.

Exactly what i tried, i come from Commandos (on hard) and Thief I and II, but this game is silly, the tank is there yes, but its two blocks from where it suddenly "pops" in that level. And yes i know i have to time my shots, that never worked except on the tutorial level... maybe the steam version is buggy i dont know, but certainlty my mileage varied too much to make it fun at all...
I got to agree with juancho - go read my review. Basically, spawning and scripted events ruin this game. It's far from its only flaw though - reloading doesn't make you stop looking through the scope for starters, the controls are RIDICULOUSLY complex and could have been tweaked a lot more. Hold a button to search? Come on - just use a single "use" button with context sensitive menu like Hitman.
The game does have a lot of touches but it's just all wasted because of the scripted spawning, invisible walls everywhere, a lack of freedom, etc. I never felt like a real sniper because of these. A real sniper would sneak around, get into buildings and snipe from a hidden spot. In this game, either buildings are just one massive texture or you can only rarely get on the second floor or there's some invisible wall preventing you from entering. The invisible walls got on my tits REAL quickly. This game isn't even as good as Hidden & Dangerous!

One brain (presumably) 2 eyes, 4 fingers and 2 thumbs. Keyboard and a mouse. Can't you multitask? In the real world one can reload with one hand, 5 round clip, and in the dark, while keeping one eye on the enemy. Soldiers do train for battle situations you know. Its the nearest most of us will ever get to being a sniper, so while not perfect, make the most of it.
