Learn that having more grunts to rush with isn't everything in this unique real-time strategy game
[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/seven_kingdoms_ancient_adversaries]Seven Kingdoms: Ancient Adversaries isn't just another RTS. What separates this game from others of its kind is its focus on diplomacy, popularity and populace management. Your main resource aren't minerals or timber, but people, so you'd better make sure they're happy. Bludgeoning through enemy cities, killing civilians and breaking truces may win you some land, but you may end up with low popularity and an empire-wide revolt on your hands. Why not send a spy to "convince" the peasants that they'd be better off under your rule? And that's just a morsel of what you can do in the game!
Thank you for bringing in this title. Now I do not have to worry about scratching my CD anymore.
I can strongly recommed this title. It is actually one of the titles on GOG that has been rated highest by the gaming press. 85 % on gamerankings, it received a 90 % from gamespot back in 1997.
In my own opinion: so far definitely the best game to have been released here on GOG, even better than the fallouts.

Those are serious major words
Oh my GOG!
It includes the 3 extra civilizations that were released afterwards. (the Zulus, the Egyptians and the Moguls) Making it 10 kingdoms and not 7.

That is indeed true since both Fallout and Fallout 2 are two extraordinary games, and timeless classics. Still, I prefer Seven Kingdoms.
Mmm... Actually I was waiting for Seven Kingdoms 2, do you think the first one is better?
In my own somewhat limited experience, the first game is better than the second.
Limited because I have only played the demo of Seven Kingdoms 2.
The reason I preferred the first game, is partially due to its atmosphere. It has a specific feel to it, and is a pretty cosy game. Seven Kingdoms 2 has a bit more 'realistic' design.
One of the primary differences between the two games is simply that Seven Kingdoms 2 contains a more 'stuff'. There are many more units, and smaller features, like the possibility of enveloping your settlements with town walls, etc. But this is not necessarily something positive. One of the good things about the first game is that it is somewhat constrained. Each civilization has one primary unit type, and that is it (one can still build different siege engines, and recruit troop types from other Civs though). It makes the military part of the game easier and more comfortable to handle, and it also gives each kingdom certain clear weaknesses and strengths. The Persians for example are equipped with a bow from the start, while the Mayans only have their clubs. The Mayans however do a lot more damage in close combat, since the Persians' spears are weaker.
Seven Kingdoms 2 is still a very good game, and I will purchase it immediately when it arrives.

Works now, thanks!
This game does not work propertly on my Vista 64 bit pc.
When I click "New Game", it goes to desktop with 7K running in the background. Clicking it opens it and it goes back to desktop after a few seconds :(
I'll try to get it working again tomorrow.
Edit: worked today when I started it :)

But I agree with what has been said. One of the single best strategy games ever. And in my top 10 favorite games of all time. RTS... but with lots of innovation! So rare to see good innovation in this genre.

Keep us up to date. I was thinking of buying this, but I'm running Vista 64bit too, so if there's a problem with that, I'll hold off until it's fixed.
I am running vista 64 and didnt come across any problems with it.
Good game brings back a lot of good playing times although now have no idea what anything does lol.
