Restaurant Empire is a solid title, focusing on the various aspects and minutiae of managing a restaurant chain. Ready to become a world famous chef?
Restaurant Empire is a business simulation, or "tycoon game", by Enlight Software. If you like micromanagement, you're going to love this game, with its plethora of sliders and spreadsheets, where you can change almost everything, from the staff, the decor, all the way to the font used in the menu. Although it's a business sim, its main gameplay option is the scenario mode, whose backstory adds an interesting backdrop and gives you some extra challenges to overcome. There's also a freeform sandbox mode, if you think being able to manage a virtual restaurant is its own reward.
Hey cool, this is one great game!
I've never actually owned it, but have heard satisfied players speaking about it, but now I don't think I'll miss the opportunity to get hold of it ;-).
Reminds me of Diner Dash.
Yes, I know they're two completely different games.
I've been looking for something like The Guild minus politics. Would this be appropriate?
This does look good. But I'm recovering from gamers' seasonal gluttony here. Maybe when I've reduced the list of barely played games (and it's in a sale).
Sounds like one my sister might like, shall send her a link
I liked the game then. Always made my hungry for some reason like the Pixar's movie, Ratatouille.
Hope Rollercoaster Tycoon series is next in line.

No, I think it's more like the a Capitalism-like simulation (from GOG's mentioning of slider and spreadsheets) with focus only on one firm (your restaurant) and not a "life simulator".

Sure she will. she is a woman so her place is in the kitchen. both in RL and in games!
sorry... couldn't help myself.

I looked at the GOG cover of this game, and interestingly it clearly depicts a mustached man on the front. :P
I knew this was in Enlight's catalogue so assumed we would see it eventually, but I initially waved it off assuming over simplicity. There looks to be more complexity than first impressions from a while ago, so I may check it out when I get through the 'to play' game pile a bit more.
I certainly hope it's far better than the sequel. I picked that one up dirt cheap on GamersGate and it was far too annoying to get into.

I've read a Hungarian review of the sequel, where the tester complained about how the years spent on developing the game don't show and how it's nowhere near the first installment.
He also said it would have been an OK game if it had appeared one year after the first one.

Sad that she plays so deeply into the stereotype but she owns more cookbooks than I've ever seen, I think its an addiction
