Bet you didn't see this one coming! The simulator that showed just how awesome the genre can be, accompanied by its highly popular, 3D-patched sequel, have just landed on GOG.com.
[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/red_baron_pack]Red Baron is a series of combat simulation games set in the Western Front of World War I. The first title of the series, while it didn't break new ground in terms of realism or visual quality, offered excellent gameplay and an addictive career mode, making it one of the best PC games of all time. Its sequel - Red Baron 3D (an updated version of Red Baron II) - offered superior graphics and realism, plus a multiplayer mode, which achieved great popularity among flight sim fans. The game also spawned a thriving modding community, with many addons and models being released over the years. You too can create your own air-combat missions as our version of the game comes with the Red Baron Mission Builder.
Wow! Those screenies seem to be from a time before polygons were invented!
Wow, awesome! But wait, wasn't Red Baron 3D released free legally? I saw a thread about that somewhere.

So was Freespace 2, but at the prices on here, you'd be particularly dastardly not to buy it.

Yeah, because $10 is way better than free.
Speaking of which, I might have a copy of Red Baron somewhere. Might have to ask my Dad.
Red Baron 1 was released in 1990. Thought some of those graphics looked older than the '98 era :)
Would you say it's closer to some of the harder/realistic flight sims here on GOG already, or is it more arcadey. A little look around the web does not give much detail.

AFAIK Freespace 2 was never released for free as a full game, only source code. For content files you still need full game, although source code has spawned efforts to replace official content files with new versions for complete free game.
Finally the frontpage! :)
Good games here.
red baron 1 was released freeware. there are several sites that have it for download.
I'd buy the pack for 5.99, but 9.99 for a freeware game is a ripoff.
Sorry, GOG, no purchase on this one.

The finest GOG moment of all time.
This for me was the 1st PC game I ever purchased (on my then ninja 386 with maths co-proc).
Thankyou GOG!
Well, as far as I can see this does not just include the freeware version but also Red Baron II along with a 3D upgrade, so its not purely 9,99 for a free game ( unless RBII was released for free as well ).
Although I have to admit this is the first time I do find the price a wee bit on the high side. Anyways, if this means there might be more flight sims coming along then Im AAAAALLL for that

Actually FS2 was available fully, and for free, because of some wording in the original license that allowed copying for a non-commercial basis. That wording was removed, so now GOG is the best place to get it.
So, you're really paying $9.99 for the sequel. And the original game is tacked in free. You people shouldn't complain.
