We're expanding Kalypso's Media catalogue with the release of the RTS game that was a breath of fresh air in PC strategies back when it was released.
[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/praetorians]Praetorians is a real-time strategy game, set in the times of Julius Caesar's campaigns against various barbarian tribes. Unlike many strategy games, gathering resources and building units is limited to a minimum, to put the emphasis of the gameplay on actual combat. The game was highly praised for its strategic depth. While each empire doesn't have dozens of unit types to choose from, the different formations and abilities at their disposal more than make up for this. You can use the terrain to your advantage, like charging downhill or setting up ambushes in forests. In a game like Praetorians, your tactical acumen is worth more than just a zerg rush.
pretty cool.
now I'm waiting for Commandos! :D
Ooh this is a surprise... Oh well at least the link to the game card works now
This is a nice surprise. The game was pretty highly rated when it was released. But I bought two RTS from your promo so this one's wish listed for now. Also: Pyro = Commandos. There's no denying it now.
Cool game. I see staff started to release games ealier at day which I'm very happy about :-).
Looks decent. Can anybody testify to whether this game tries to be historically accurate (like Empire Earth), sort-of historically accurate with creative freedom (like Age of Mythology), or just plain whatever-we-think-is-cool randomly set in actual well-known phases and places of history (like, eh, Painkiller)?
Yay! What a cool game! I've spent many hours with this one some years ago... and for 5.99$ 8-O. Thanks, GOG! *clinking of cash register*
Now it's just a small step to Commandos, isn't it? :)

Commandos was my first thought. Been wanting to see that game on gog.com for a while now. Is it published under the same publisher as praetorians?
As for praetorians it's a fun game. Limited amount of units indeed but it takes some thinking to get through the game.
@Stonebro. It's a realistic game. You'll get units such as legionaires, archers and cavalry.
This is another game I've always wanted to try. I must agree with others and say I'm ready for some Commandos too :D

From what I know, the game is about as accurate as Empire Earth. Although there is no chance of fighting cavemen with mechs. But it's not as well researched as Rome Total War, with which it shares the era.
Sorry, i'll pass this time, my brain is not big enough to deal with RTS. I'll stick with HoMM-likes... ^_^
hmmm...interesting
So it looks Eidos sold all the rights to Pyro Studios catalog to Kalypso. Weird move, I'm sure Square Enix is the one to blame.
Would be nice to have the game available in its original language *cough* ;)

Actually, Sqeenie seem quite interested in producing a WW2 RTS. So I doubt they'd want to ditch those who had already successfully done so. Either way, we can't complain as it would be a lot tougher to coax Eidos on here.

In fact, Praetorians definitely aren't RTS of classic fashion. It's more like tactical action game...a bit similar to World in Conflict...quite a lot, when I think about it :-)
