Most squad-level tactics games are pretty serious, encouraging you to think fast and not get your men killed. Police Quest: SWAT 1 and 2 make all of them seem casual.

Police Quest: SWAT 1 is an interactive cinematic adventure and SWAT 2 is an isometric-view real-time tactics game. Initially released as part of the Police Quest series, SWAT eventually spawned a spin-off series of its own. Both games are very focused on following proper procedure - you can't just waltz in, shoot everything that moves and then sort out who's who. Even failing to call for the suspect to surrender before arresting him will look bad to the public and in your files. A Police officer's job is a tough one so don't expect these games to cut you any slack.
On the other hand, SWAT 2 lets you play on the other side - as the leader of a radical left-wing terrorist group. Don't think this means you can do whatever you want, though.
Now put your serious face on and discover how real a game can be.

ANd there is no Manual for SWAT 2. Since SWAT 2 is a complex strategy game, you really need one. Bad,bad, Omission, GOG.

I bought Swat 2 when it came out and the manual is about as thick as a bible. The game is damn near impossible to play without it.
I checked, and you can pick up a copy of the game with the Manal on EBay for around Ten bucks'there is even a version still in the plastic box Wrapping for Twenty.
And there was a budget version released in the early 2000's that had the Manual in PDF format on the disc.
So it's not like The Manual is a rare document.
Yeah, GOG seems to have missed the boat on this one in a number of ways.
Luckily, I still have the manual athough I lost the CD a while ago. Always meant to get a replacement on the used game market, but never got around to it. So I am ok personally, but you really do need the Manual to play the game.
Apparently you cannot save games in SWAT One due to a conflict with DOSBOX. THis makes the game Unplayable. GOG needs to fix this or refund purchasers their money.

ArbitraryWater: I have absolutley no idea if these games are for me. Thus, erring on the side of caution, I will save my money.
lol quit wasting space these games are awesome >> seriously though do not post if your just posting to read what you wrote you might want to invest in word for that ;-3
You can also find the replacement manuals from a site called replacementdocs.com

If your in a pinch and need help.

And to I would also like to add that swat 1 , the mission with LUCY ( curse her name) the old woman with the gun, is a pain in the bum. even slicing the pie she still seems to be EVERYWHERE in the house

I got go pissed with it that, when I finally got her cornered in the bath room behind the shower curtain

I HAD TO SAVE THE GAME.

Because I knew that after all the trouble she put me thru.....she had to die.

12 gauge ( not buckshot) shot thru shower curtain. solved the problem.

Am I any less entitled to post than the people riding the nostalgia bandwagon who all say "Oh man, I loved these games! They are the best! etc etc" with no real reason to back it up? I seriously can't tell if these would be games I would enjoy and I'm not willing to pay $10 to find out when I have so much other stuff to play.
I absolutely loved SWAT2 when I played it at a friend's house more than 10 years ago. I bought myself a disc copy of the game about 2 years ago and was bummed out to learn that it absolutely refused to run on any computer I own. It seems to be really picky about what system configurations it will work with, even after messing with the compatibility settings and the like. Just a slight note of caution to those who are considering buying this pack just for SWAT2.

Don't concern yourself with people who think you only have right to post if you have positive things to say... and to answer you... I can't speak about SWAT 2, I havent played it... but imo, SWAT 1 is absolutely atrocious. It is so boring and the sniping... I can speak from experience that it is easier to fire a sniper rifle accurately in real life than on this game. And I'm not even slightly exaggerating. Of course you dont have to actually be a sniper but yeah, either way... Its one of the most boring games ive ever played

dudalb: I just downloaded this and SWAT 2 does not work. I get a message saying a file, D3Dx9_43.dll was not found, and reinstalling might solve the problem.I tried reinstalling and it did not fix the problem. ANd then I could not email GOG about this until I "lied" by choosing a topic other then Tech support for games since when I chose the help with games on the contact page all it did was send me back to the Tech Support page.
Pretty angry at the moment.
Hello dudalb,

Here is the d3dx9_43.dll : http://www.d3dx9.net/download-missing-d3dx9_43-dll/…download it and then extract the downloaded zip file to the system32 folder which is located in windows folder (that is located in your main drive which contains the installed windows)
When I try to start a mission of SWAT 2, this error happens.
I started the game as an administrator and also normally.
Please help me solve this error ... Error in the attached image.
Google Translator ... I'm Brazilian.
