Only on GOG, a new game release can bring so many memories from back in the days. So who remembers the times of Pentium MMX?

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/pod_gold]POD Gold also known as Planet of Death is a futuristic racer with a plot. The game takes place in the future on a planet called Io. A mining accident unleashes a deadly virus which threatens the whole planet population. After a massive exodus from the planet, only one seat in the very last rescue spaceship remains. This seat will be taken by the winner of a dangerous race in which you're taking part. Maybe it's not an Oscar winning script but come on, it's a racer :) In POD it's all about speed - you drive one of 16 turbocharged machines through 32 tracks in full 3D environment, fighting for the top spot. When released, POD was the first game making use of the Pentium MMX technology, and later on, one of the titles with 3D acceleration. Based on this POD was often used as an example of what the computers in the late 90's could do. Today you can check the "hi-end technology of the 90's" and have fun while blasting 300 mph through the futuristic tracks for only $5.99.
My first ever 3DFX game. GOG are clearly wearing their +10 Cloak of Nostalgia today.
Just wanted to let you guys know, this DOES NOT include the Back to Hell expansion! This includes the extra cars and tracks from POD Gold, which consisted of many of the free downloadable content items on Ubisoft's website back in the day. Back To Hell includes three new tracks (Beach, Hellway, and Night) and several new vehicles (Akir7, Baboss, Bat, Breton, Darksmil, Eclypse, IRX, Kaiser, Nocte, Onyx, Pirate, Razor, RM667, Witch, and Xira). None of these are included in this current release from GOG, so it's a bit deceptive what you're getting.

Great to see this on GOG though! Amazing that this runs perfectly on newer Windows machines, as this was always a HUGE issue with this game using the retail versions. Many props to Ubisoft and GOG for releasing this. Hope to see the Back To Hell content included eventually.

Thanks for clearing this out.
Perfect timing! I only recently discovered this game, and thought it looked awesome, but didn't have any way to purchase it. Then GOG comes and fixes that!

Certainly going to have to pick it up, along with SimCity 2000 =)
Hell yeah! I'll add this to the wish list for now, but I'll definitely be grabbing this one at some point.
I'm terribly confused reading that some1 doesn't know what 'MMX' was... I'm too old, I guess.
Not a bad game. Sense of speed is kind of slow. Would love to see Extreme G 2 on GOG. ;)
Even though it has a story, I'm going to skip this one. Give me the humor of Megarace II anytime. I guess I'm not so into racing games.

So it's an incomplete expansion or something? :P
Nice job for this release, GoG.
I still got a CD with that game from a game collection lying around.

No, they simply got their facts wrong. The Gold version that's on GoG is the standard Gold version sold at retail in Europe. This included several tracks and cars from the Ubisoft POD website, already on the CD so you didn't have to download them. The Back to Hell expansion was something else entirely, which added three exclusive tracks and several new vehicles that weren't included in the Gold version of POD.

Ah. Too bad, but oh well - they do their best. :)

It actually looks like they've removed the statement that it included Back to Hell from the product page, so it's all good now. And yeah, it's just a minor and forgivable mistake, and I'm extremely psyched to have POD in DRM-free form and playable on my modern PCs!
HOLY SHIZNIT! This is the game I was waiting for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks GOG!
Incredible. I just wanted to give my vote to this on the wishlist, I was so sure that I won't ever see this game and suddenly it's on GOG. Thanks, GOG! You're my saviors!
