Only on GOG, a new game release can bring so many memories from back in the days. So who remembers the times of Pentium MMX?

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/pod_gold]POD Gold also known as Planet of Death is a futuristic racer with a plot. The game takes place in the future on a planet called Io. A mining accident unleashes a deadly virus which threatens the whole planet population. After a massive exodus from the planet, only one seat in the very last rescue spaceship remains. This seat will be taken by the winner of a dangerous race in which you're taking part. Maybe it's not an Oscar winning script but come on, it's a racer :) In POD it's all about speed - you drive one of 16 turbocharged machines through 32 tracks in full 3D environment, fighting for the top spot. When released, POD was the first game making use of the Pentium MMX technology, and later on, one of the titles with 3D acceleration. Based on this POD was often used as an example of what the computers in the late 90's could do. Today you can check the "hi-end technology of the 90's" and have fun while blasting 300 mph through the futuristic tracks for only $5.99.
What about the added cars and circuits? Are they all there?
Oh my god! Maximum nostalgia has been achieved outta nowhere :O
Man, you guys are great!

Just yesterday, I thought about this great game and how I wanted to play it again.
Thanks a lot!
Wow, this game reminds me so much of Star Wars Podracer.

Yes, the Gold version includes Back to Hell expansion.
Still have the original cd-rom ...... back in the days i bought a Diamond Monster 3D (3dfx) to play this game at his best.
POD came bundled with my first Voodoo (3dfx) card - great memories.
Exists any POD 2 or something like that? I remember play POD when I was little kid, but dont know which POD exactly
Interesting, wishlisted for now, may well get it very soon.

I bought this for the bargain price of a pound about eight years ago from GameStation in the UK and have NEVER been able to get it to work on any PC I have ever had, so it's great that it's now working this well. Plus, I don't have the expansion, so it's worth getting for that :)

Same here, still have.it. Maybe I should try if it still runs ok with e.g. a GlideWrapper, I think it was only a 3Dfx game ie. no Direct3D support. Maybe this Gold version has D3D support for other cards too? I haven't played the expansion pack, I didn't know it existed.

The game itself was... so so, I guess. Ok as a generic futuristic racing game (albeit the sense of speed was rather poor), but e.g. Fatal Racing, which I also got with my card, was soooo much better!

Come to think of it, now I'd like to re-try lots of 3Dfx Glide games, also those which I got with my card. Fatal Racing/Whiplash, Mechwarrior 2 (+ Mercenaries), Tomb Raider 3Dfx version...

Yesterday I was sooooo happy that I was able to get Carmageddon 2 to run perfectly on my new Win7/64bit laptop, yay!!! Needed a bit of tinkering, but now it works. Direct3D didn't work if I wanted to use a game controller (crashes at boot), but that was fixed by installing nGlide wrapper, and running the game in 3Dfx mode. :) Needed also compatibility mode to get sounds out of it, and 640x480 resolution in order for the mouse pointer to work correctly in menus. I think these same issues were already with 32bit WinXP.

Direct3D support was added through a patch
