Jacob I believe you've just pushed the bar for judging a book by its cover as high as it can possibly go

JacobNZ: Also judging by the pictures the gameplay isn't much better.

JacobNZ: Yes but there is a limit I mean I don't mind fallout or septerra core but these graphics are abit to old school for my tastes. Also judging by the pictures the gameplay isn't much better.

you never know until you try, also i don't buy the entire GOG catalogue either i just buy those i remember from my childhood (for the nostalgia) and those who i could be interested in.

JudasIscariot: Yes, there is a limit but no one is forcing you to buy this product.

Yes but I was more asking your guys opinion on why you buy some of the older obviously EXTREMELY BADLY dated games if you know what i mean >_>;

because even if it looks horrible and probably gives you eye cancer, the gameplay still kicks ass.

JudasIscariot: HOORAY!!!
I am at a loss for words....

And, I suspect, spare funds... Or do you always have "hidden stash" for such deals? ;-)

Depends.
Some of us grew up with these games, some of us REALLY like dungeon-crawler RPGs, which are not made anymore, some of us could care less about the graphics.
Other people are collectors or merely interested in seeing how games have evolved from simple wire-frame graphics to what they are now.

not like in some overhyped new games.
On a side note does anyone know where I could buy a pc copy of seige of the darkwood?

I wish I had a hidden stash :D. I am just really happy to see this series here at last.
Besides, thieves don't have hidden stashes, pirates do :-).

OK, then let's switch it to a "secret safe". :-)
I guess you'll pick this one up as soon as you have a job, right? (Along with UT2004? ;-))

If I get a decent job, my personal wishlist on GOG will get a very needed cleaning.
Also, being a Guild player, you should know where I hide my secret funds :D :D.
Check out my wishlist :D

Bought. Which this and Stonekeep (which I bought yesterday, thanks GOG) I should have enough RPGs to keep me occupied for a while...

Because we want to =)
For that matter, some of us still occasionally play 8-bit games. I'm very partial to a round of Oh Mummy! or Starquake on the CPC 464 every now and then. And those games are far far older than anything sold on GOG.
I guess that's part of the point though, those of us who grew up at a time when gameplay most certainly outshined the graphics, are still fully capable of enjoying games that have poor graphics by today's standards.
As for these games, I never did play them first time round and I'm not sure I'll pick them up now. I'd far rather have the Eye of the Beholder series and some of the other TSR games, but who knows, I may eventually give in and pick this up -- once I've gone through my current purchases from the Anniversary sale!
And as a side note, graphics alone can rarely make a good game, but they can help to make a good game better.
Well theres no music for me on MM6, I see the soundtrack is in the "sounds" folder though, but it should play automatically :p
Why do I buy old games with "jaded" graphics? because they're fun, challenging and for the most have incredible deep gameplay.
I can't say that about many new games with DirectX 10 and Shader Model 3.0.
