I bought this as soon as I saw it as I lost hours on MOO2 in the past. But has anyone tried the game yet? I installed it and it looks like it works ok until you try to Design a ship. The buttons for that (and Refit) are greyed out. Is this broken? It's kind of an integral part of the game...
Plus the ships you make are made with random numbers after their names.

that's awesome.
I've sadly only played MOO 3, which I did like, but I've heard so much great stuff about the first two games (especially the second), that I simply have to check them out.

Can't you select French in the game, in the Options menu? I distinctly remember playing it in Italian.
Or is it only available in the Windows version?

You have to select "tactical combat" when you start the game. Otherwise all fights are automatic and you cannot design ships (is also automatic).

I was a bit short of ready cash right now, but I had some money sitting in my Paypal account from an Ebay refund. It happily funded my purchase of this and Outcast.
I never play MOO1, though I did have MOO2 and MOO3.
The second game was good, but the third had as much soul as a spreadsheet.

I never ever played this series, but from the screenshots, it looks REALLY good. Like, really fun, and tactical and stuff. But then, I saw a youtube video and it seemed A LOT CONFUSING.
Is these games easy to learn?
I mean, I don't even know what 4X mean... But I did play some strategy games before, like civilization.

According to one of the reviews its easy to learn. I'd like some elaboration though..most strategy games terrify me, though I want to like them..haha

Ah! It will greatly depend on you, I am afraid.
I personally did not at all need to even take a look at the manual to become Master of MoO :-D, so I'd vote for easy.
But then, I learned Civ, Settlers, Battle Isle and oh-so-many others by tinkering, so I'm not sure how representative my experience is.

If you can handle Civ, you can learn MOO no problem. MOO2 has a useful integrated help popup system where you can get a compact explanation of just about anything by right-clicking on it.

Oohh, okay then. Great. This game looks "delicious" (I have no better words for it right now).
I think I'll go outside and steal some money to buy this thing, it really looks great.
