As the last release from the first batch of the huge deal with Electronic Arts, we’re giving you a chance to become a wizard that needs to save the world.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/magic_carpet]Magic Carpet is an extraordinary action shooter game from the acclaimed Bullfrog Productions. All magic wielders are battling between themselves for the most valuable resource (no, not oil) - mana. Casting huge meteor showers or invoking a terrifying thunder storm, one could summon a castle in the middle of an ocean or just create a volcano right on top of this little harmless village. If you’re not the type of guy that likes to let the hell loose you could always just throw fireballs here and there or just summon a massive skeleton army to plow your way through the plethora of hostile creatures. Apart from other wizards and genies fighting you over the oh so precious mana, you’ll encounter various fantasy monsters ready to devour you (like a hydra or a dragon) or convert mana into more monsters (like the crabs do ;)).

Apart from this awesome flying-carpet action you can slow down a take a look at the normal lives of the townsfolk to admire the normal day to day activities that the AI performs. And if we’re on the subject of AI, the one controlling the opposing wizards is exceptional even when looking from today’s perspective.
If you ever wanted to live the life of a carpet-zooming wizard now you can! Want to do much more than just sing-along “A Whole New World” with the prince and the princess? Then this is the game for you!
I got this on a CD some where, never played it through thought. I wonder if I should try and find it.

Galimatias: As mentioned before, due to legal/licensing issues we couldn't provide the bonus content on release, but we're working with EA on it and will do everything we can to bring the EA releases to our top notch standard in terms of goodies.

Treewyrm: Heh, the deal with EA was just too damn good to be true without something amiss, right? :P
I'm kind of puzzled there though. I know that GoG isn't allowed to or doesn't want to talk about what's going on with the EA negotiations, so I don't really expect any clarification or answer, but it seems strange that EA wouldn't hold the rights on the extension for a game, then they have the rights for the base game, wouldn't it? Not that I'd put it past the horribly clustered IP/copyright situation, but...
Then again, if EA has the rights to the extension, wouldn't it be logic for them to include it with the deal in order to generate a better revenue due to increased incentive?
I just can't make any sense to the situation :/
I just wanted to let everyone know, that Reaver894 has forced me to redeem a code for MC. Screw you... my wife will not see me for days now :)

I'm so sorry for you (and your wife, though she might be glad for the spare time without you *grins and teases*). I hope you're going to be better soon and manage to step off the flying carpet, as you destroyed all your opponents and collected a few castles full of precious mana.

I should really fetch my Magic Carpet CD and try to get it running on DOSBox ;)

Gremmi: Frustrating getting this working under Xpadder for dual analogue controls...I would just use standard kb/mouse combo, but I primarily use a notebook. Main issue is that the keyboard controls for acceleration work like a throttle, whereas I want controls that snap back (IE, when I release the analogue stick then the rider stops). Anyone know of a way to do this?
avatar
Hillsy_: Can't you just assign the y+ to accelerate & y- to de-accelerate? Sooo..like Left Analog... x- Strafe Left.. x+ Strafe Right. y+ Accelerate y- De-accelerate.. Then Right Analog for camera movement, buttons for spell select and activate. I played the game originally with the keyboard and mouse, didn't really have any problems with the controls. Can't remember if I held the key down to increase speed...or set it like..cruise control...similiar in the way to Descent..
Unfortunately not, there appears to be no way to remap the controls in Magic Carpet itself. I can get it working fine, it's just that to come to a stop you have to pull back on the analogue stick rather than just setting it to neutral. I'm probably not explaining it very well though.

Have tried adjusting the setup for the game to make it think a throttle is attached, but my Xbox 360 controller isn't being recognised as such. Maybe some tweaking of the dosbox config file is needed...I shall experiment.
Am I the only one who confused the claw on the wing of that dragon on the header image... for a guy holding onto the wing and flailing his little legs about?

Ah! memories are coming back...yes..you had to pull back on the stick and keep it there.. There was something you could do...but I've forgotten... Hmmm...you can't assign keys to like 0, 30% throttle, 60% Throttle, 90% Throttle?... Have you got a different controller to try? I have an old Saitek controller which I use with Xpadder, great with Crusader No Remorse. X360 controllers use DirectInput? or Directx? Experiment abit like you say.
I'll have to wait on this one, more excited to buy and play Crusader and DK...
Hi! Cool news, but what about MC2? :) And Crusader No Regret? :) May be there will be complete packs?

No magic missiles?

Why have I never heard of this? It looks awesome!

This is a DOSBox game so there is absolutely no need to use any third party utility like XPadder. You can press ALT-F1 at any time while in DOSBox and assign keyboard actions to your gamepad. It works actually very, very well.

Thanks for the tip, didn't know that :) Always thought you had to use an external program with Dosbox. Did you get MC working alright with your controller?

Keep in mind that DOSBox has a bug where it will not recognize the "hat switch" (ex. 360's direction pad) unless you set the controller in the conf to "fcs" or something like that. Otherwise you'll be able to map it, but it will be useless outside of the mapper itself.

It does, true, but from what I can tell you can't map mouse movements to analogue sticks. Unless I'm being completely blind, anyway.

For some reason DOSBox won't see the 360 controller as anything other than a two button joystick as well (setting it to ch or fcs just makes it claim it's not connected), so not quite as good as xpadder yet.
