With King's Quest titles.
King's Quest game with many protagonists and in which King Graham isn't present or even mentioned. King's Quest series, though. Both games' storylines are absolutely enthralling and and you can't really call yourself an adventure game fan if you haven't played them.
Okay, anniversary is out.
Bought for the last game as that appeals to me but will try and play number 7 to. Good release for adventure players
is King Quest VIII: Mask of Eternity any good? looks like an adventure\rpg mixture from the screenshots. Is it combat centered or it's just a 3d point and click?
Okay, this is pretty awesome. I never played any of these. The graphics in #8 looks a bit lol though. A shame they jumped onto the 3D bandwagon.

doesn't look bad at all to me: http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/images/galleries/93/93_4.jpg
It's 3d accelerated, means you can play it at very high resolutions today if the game supports them.
3D also allows a different experience in adventure games, instead of the old, tiresome "pixel hunting"
i was reading this review: http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/index.php/site/reviews/93/
and looks like it's not a bad game at all
screenshots on GOG looks like they use 16 bit texturing. Before I buy i'd wish to know if there's a problem with this game (I'm talking about Mask of Eternity), as the game on GOG looks a lot WORSE if compared to screenshots found on other sites.
Is it rendered using a software mode? Does it support DirectX and 32-bit textures?
Looks like it suffer of the same problem we have with MDK 1, the gog version used the ugly software renderer instead of being able to display the game how it used to run on old PCs with 3dfx cards.
Why cannot gog include a glide emulator (a pair of DLLs) with the games supporting it?
If you compare this one

with this http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/images/galleries/93/93_4.jpg
brightness aside you can see there's something wrong on GOG version

$30 for the entire series, then. By today's standards, KQ6 is the only one worth buying IMO. So...

$50 if you add Space Quest, and think about the price once the Quest for Glory and Police Quest will be released here.

It screams for an 50% sale ;-)
Now serious, at the moment gog is the only seller of KQ1 AGI and KQ8, which is great. If they could get the SCI-remake of KQ1 for pack 1 and the very rare AGI-version of KQ4 for pack 2 every pack itself would be a real special, especially if they also put in all original manuals.
Personally I was mostly interested in KQ3 and KQ4 and got now the Collection box through the Telltale sale, so my hunger is sated at the moment.

King's Quest 8 is a game I both loved and hated. On one side, it is one of the best third person action adventure (with a little bit of RPG) hybrids of its time, on the other hand, Roberta Williams kinda broke her own promise that the King's Quest series should always be family friendly and non-agressive. There is still a great plot though. with good characters and interesting locations, and the good old epic fairytale atmosphere is still present; alive and living throughout the whole experience. Oh, and the soundtrack is mightily fine too.
I'd say its a great game, just don't call it King's Quest.
Anyway, another definite instabuy for me! I know it may be available cheaper elsewhere, and I already got the retail versions, but whatthahell. ;)
Wow, the screenshots from 8 seem to be from an entire different genre/ip/universe!

Eclipse: Why cannot gog include a glide emulator (a pair of DLLs) with the games supporting it?

Well, they have done that in the past - several games use openglide I think. Of course, at least one of those is interstate76, which was probably the second most complained about incompatible game on GOG.
I think the problem is that most of the best glide wrappers aren't official or open source, so gog can't use them. Openglide is about their only option - but it has some flaws. And glide wrapper compatibility is a pain in the butt - leading to a huge number of complaints.
Don't get me wrong, I really wish GOG would devote a couple of employees to upgrading openglide, adding some features (like a frame rate limiter) and making a truely decent option for playing old 3d games.
But I can see why they might just avoid all the potential hassle.
King's Quest 8 does not run at all well here. To get it to run at all, I had to set the compatibility mode to Windows XP, and the Direct 3D version is really not playable, as it stutters and crashes every now and again. The Direct Draw versions works better, but then there's the old Windows 7 colour-shifting bug, which makes everything look rather psychedelic and rainbow-y.
I am playing around with the Catalyst Control Centre now to try to find a fix. So far without success. Disabling Catalyst AI did help a bit, but Direct 3D still crashes every few minutes and whenever I try to interact with anything in the game world.
My system configuration:
OS: Windows 7 64bit
GFX: AMD Radeon 5970
Edit:
Oops, it looks like DirectDraw does work just fine, it is just the main menu that suffers the rainbow-bug. The game itself looks just fine, jaggy-ish, sure, since it only uses the software renderer, but it runs. So I'm happy. :)

KQ8 can be a tough one to get to run - I wish I could try it to see if it works because it would be wasted money otherwise.
Too bad the soundtrack is not included for ANY of the King's Quest games on GOG :((((
Good release. 8 is good. 7 makes this a deal.
