Nah, I use a fan-made patch that gets all 7 working better with no color issues and allows them to launch without the disc or the collection's silly launcher app.
Like I said, a google search would surely find it. There is one from the same guy for all 4 collections, Kings, Space, Police and Larry. They're quite popular, I'm not talking about something obscure.
And again, these are for the collections, not the GOG releases.

Somewhat strangely, King's Quest 3 and 8 (what a combination!) are the only KQ games I have any real experience with, and I'm happy to see the genuinely odd Mask of Eternity on a digital download service. I already got the Steam collection of KQ games, though, so I'll wait for the inevitable promo for this one...

If I remember correctly, the KQ8: Mask of Eternity and Quest for Glory V marked the final days of Sierra On-line. How is the King's Quest 8 compared to Quest for Glory V?

where QGV stuck to it's adventuring roots KQ8 is more like a 3d snore fest with terrible combat.. at least thats what i remember but it was awhile since i played either...

I only find the exe installer version of the KQ8 patch there, and it doesn't seem to work on 64 bit Windows 7. Is there a zipped files version alternative maybe?

Am I the only one who liked Mask of Eternity? Played it back in the day and had quite a bit of fun going through it, liked it more then the other King's and Space Quest games actually.

Try this link directly to the file. Normally it updates your Dosbox, changes settings, download some file for KQ7 and creates some shortcuts.

Hmm, ok KQ8 works fine and all. But for some reason the title screen is glitched a bit. While menu choices appear fine, the actual game title either appears glitched, or doesn't appear at all. No big deal really, but probably should be fixed.

While checking the wiki-page about Sierra your post came back in my mind. There is a Sierra game made for Walt Disney called The Black Cauldron. You maybe want to this check out, because it was especially made for kids and it's actually free. You can grab it from Al Lowes webpage, who is the programmer of this games and more known for his Larry games. There are also some of his other games which Sierra made these days for Walt Disney. You just need to know to get them to work under DosBox.

Edit: Ahh, reading your post again I see you're not a Disney-fan. But maybe you give it a look, the game looks very Sierra-oldstyle and not Disney-colourful like KQ7 or Torins Passage.
