Silent. Emotionless. Undetected. Lethal. Effective. Hitman: Codename 47.

Hitman: Codename 47, a game that crafted a standard for in-game contract killers, can finally stealthily approach you with a garrote wire on GOG.com for $5.99.

The ultimate gaming assassin is silent, emotionless, infallibly lethal, well-dressed (suit up!), and he can only be distinguished by the barcode tattooed on his bald skull. His name is 47 and he has created a lot of bad publicity for bald men wearing red ties since his first appearance in 2000.

Hitman: Codename 47, the first game in the franchise that has spanned 4 titles and a movie to date, developed a completely new approach towards third-person shooters and stealth games. You need planning, elaborate schemes, deceit and sometimes a garrote wire to perform your assignments in the most “silent” manner. Or you can just kill everyone, one by one. Find the target and eliminate it, by any means possible. That's all that really matters.

You can become a cold-blooded contract killer in Hitman: Codename 47 for only $5.99.
This game is merely an okay entry in an amazing series. I enjoyed playing it many years ago, but I think that its pig-headed linearity - in the sense that there is usually only one specific solution to each mission - may turn many off. I certainly had a hard time with that element the last time I played it.

However, I wait with bated breath for the release of the rest of the series. Thanks guys. Go team GoG!

Bullshit mister han man!!
This game was and still is fantastic. There's always more than one way to beat a mission and about the linearity, there's a lot of fancy shmansy class A games released today that are more linear than this one; sure it's not as flashy as the other ones in the series and you get no saves during mission but that doesn't bother me, I never used saves in the other games either because it felt wrong.

if they would have added the mission ratings (that "silent assassin" thing) earlier in the series this game would have kicked even more ass.

I love this first game to death and will not stand for any of this badmouthing!

Argh, the game appears to be broken for me. It runs way too fast and I can't interact with certain objects in the environment. In fact, I can't even finish the tutorial level since I can't operate the elevator controls to get out of the basement.

I looked at the game subforum and it seems that some people are having similar problems, so beware. I really hope GOG will provide a fix, but given their track record I'm not super optimistic at this point.

Dear lord, so it's because of guys like you that this game actually gets 4/5 stars? Honestly, anyone who knows anything about games knows this one is riddled with flaws. I think most people here have pink glasses on ... As much as I love the later Hitman games, the first was a practice in frustration, trial & error, replaying large parts and getting pissed off by getting killed because the game was being an ass.

Of course, if you replayed it a ton of time, then you get a warped view of a game like this anyway, because you already know the ideal solution to completing a map. Seriously, this game is a very very very rough diamond - great ideas but some extremely horrible missions.

Have you checked here, a fix for this problem was added in the thread

Thank you! Those are pretty messy solutions (let WinRAR compress some files to slow down your CPU, wtf) but I'm going to give it a try and see if any of the suggestions solve my problems. I am running the game on a laptop, so F4LL0UT may be onto something there...
