Unite a quarrelling kingdom and save a delicate peace.

Save a fragile peace in the open-world RPG Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition, available now on GOG.com for just $9.99.

It's been two years since the events from [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/gothic_3]Gothic 3. You awaken from a coma induced by the finale of the first game. In those two years, everything has not gone well. Myrtana is divided into four parts, now ruled by old friends of the nameless hero. Gorn took the paladins’ stronghold Gotha, while Thorus united the orcs and he settled in the castle in Trelis. Commander Lee now rules the capital of Myrtana--Vengard--and the eastern parts of the land. Finally, Inog and Anog jointly administer the territories of Silden and Geldern. The promise of peace and unity that you fought so hard for before you fell asleep has proved an empty one.

You as the nameless hero must reconcile the warring parties and bring peace to the land again. The main area to explore is Myrtana, and since this is a sandbox RPG, you can explore it in any fashion you see fit as you fight to preserve your troubled land. The fighting system has been revamped, the open world lets you play the game how you see fit, and the main story and many sidequests are sure to keep you occupied for hours. This is the Enhanced Edition, which fixes many major bugs, improves the overall gameplay, and even has some improved graphics and effects from the original release.

GOG.com is sporting the Enhanced Edition of Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods made by Trine Games & G3 Community Patch Team. Get it now DRM-Free for just $9.99!
This looks like a serious contender for most unpopular game in the GOG catalog. Time to move up, MoO 3.

Zeewolf: Hey, GOG, just because they offer you a game doesn't mean you have to take it.
If Forsaken Gods is included in the contract, GOG *does* have to take it.

Titanium: PB went too far and dreamt too big for Gothic 3. The problem was that they could easily produce an "excellent" (that's my opinion anyway) product like Risen but fell short with something like G3.

ithilien827: Personally I don't think they overstretched. Gothic 3 is a very very good game (including the community patch), and if Jowood hadn't fucked things up I think it could have been epic.

The game needed a bit of extra content in some areas, and some polish in others, but I loved the scope of it... Half a year extra from PB, and it would have been one of the best games ever.
Gothic 3 has too many flaws (even with a fan patch which PB shouldn't be credited with anyway) to be considered good let alone very (x2) good. The vast majority of quests are of the MMO variety. Liberating cities is extremely tedious (and God help you if you decide for whatever reason to clear all the Orc camps in Nordmar). The faction system is more shallow than World of Warcraft. Randomized loot in chests ruins exploration (that chest guarded by two trolls could contain less impressive junk than you'd find in one sitting near the starting village). The combat is just dreadful. Huge empty spaces of nothing comprise most of Varant and Nordmar as if they were simply unfinished. I could go on and on... I just don't see how anyone could objectively think Gothic 3 is very very good. It had great ambition but failed to realize it through a series of poor design decisions.
I know what game i won't be buying from gog...
So you released it on monday so we have an easier time forgetting that this thing was ever released after we hear what happens tomorrow?

smooth moves, smooth moves.
Not worth it at that price point...

Exactly. Sometimes GOG probably have to take the good with the bad, which is why there's some BAD (overpriced) games. I don't mind it too much, and think people should be honest about their feelings (and rate the game low), but not berate GOG too much about it and suggest other good games for people to buy on here.

And GOG is probably just as aware of how much of a stinker it is as we are. After all, they did shoehorn it in using an odd Monday release, supposedly before a big Tuesday announcement.

GameRager: Is it a decent RPG(story/gameplay wise) detatched from the Gothic name or what?
it's not decent in any way. just read a review, the game has been universally condemned.

it's not the same situation as with Gothic 3. fully patched (including the fabulous fan patch) it's quite a decent action-RPG that only falls short in terms of story elements since that's something you can't just patch in.

Titanium: PB went too far and dreamt too big for Gothic 3. The problem was that they could easily produce an "excellent" (that's my opinion anyway) product like Risen but fell short with something like G3.
yes. Piranha Bytes have admitted some time after the release of Gothic 3 and after their split-up with JoWood that it wasn't all JoWood's fault, and that they had overestimated their capabilities. in other words: Gothic 3 was too large for a developer as small as PB. it took them ages to get to where G3 was on release, and the game was nowhere near done, content- and story-wise.

avatar
Titanium: Jowood, profit wise, leaned on them to finish their product with all haste, and in turn pushed them towards a spiral of late development-ish disaster.
JoWood had a long history of incomplete and buggy releases. there's hardly a European publisher/developer more universally hated than JoWood. funny thing is that JoWood's developers manage to make completely playable and almost bug-free games as soon as they break free of JoWood...

avatar
Titanium: If they get full rights for the Gothic name back, I don't know what they'll do with it.
they have gotten the Gothic rights back a while ago. poetic justice.

i'm not sure if they can ever successfully revive the series after JoWood did their best to smear dirt all over it, in the form of Forsaken Gods and ArcaniA.

avatar
kodeen: The Gothic name has been dragged through too much mud, and PB is creative enough to not have to rely on it.
i would like for PB to get a chance to set the record straight, so to speak. the Gothic series should not have ended the way it did, and it must have been tough for PB not only to loose the licence but also to watch how JoWood went on dragged it through the mud.

with Risen PB redeemed themselves, and they ought to get a chance at ending the Gothic series with a decent, final installment. or start it anew.

avatar
Xaromir: They actually reviewed that in the gamestar, depending on your native language there is a chance that you may have seen it. I've heard it also was very buggy. :) The current Gothic is better but does not live up to that once great name.
they did, and gave it 71%. of course, they already overrated Gothic 3 by 15-20%. 4players gave it an angry 44%...

too late g.o.g. I already bought the series off gamers gate.
The only interest I have in later games that are widely available outside your service is for the D.R.M. free aspect so you might win me back with G4:Arcania but the rest of the series, simply put 'too late'.
Well done for releasing it GOG. The only one which I think is bad is the fast that all of the Gothic games now cost 40$, which is an insane amount considering they're quite old, but other than that, good release. Release as many games as you can. I've gotten tired of people constantly asking for 20+ year old games which have aged fucking terribly and have been technologically and gameplay-wise surpassed, simply because they used to play them when they were kids.

Think you're in the wrong place then as that's what this site is all about O_o.

Your lack of enthusiasm does not amuse me. -Force grips neck-
hmmm ... a release on Monday and something cool happening tomorrow eh? Even though the enhanced edition of this game was released in 2011, the actual game is from late 2008. Perhaps tomorrow we get one of the first of the batch of "newer" games on GOG (1<x<3 years old)?

Don't try to frighten me. Your sad devotion to ancient games hasn't helped you conjure up the exciting news tomorrow or led you to Dr. M's secret lair!
