Unite a quarrelling kingdom and save a delicate peace.

Save a fragile peace in the open-world RPG Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition, available now on GOG.com for just $9.99.

It's been two years since the events from [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/gothic_3]Gothic 3. You awaken from a coma induced by the finale of the first game. In those two years, everything has not gone well. Myrtana is divided into four parts, now ruled by old friends of the nameless hero. Gorn took the paladins’ stronghold Gotha, while Thorus united the orcs and he settled in the castle in Trelis. Commander Lee now rules the capital of Myrtana--Vengard--and the eastern parts of the land. Finally, Inog and Anog jointly administer the territories of Silden and Geldern. The promise of peace and unity that you fought so hard for before you fell asleep has proved an empty one.

You as the nameless hero must reconcile the warring parties and bring peace to the land again. The main area to explore is Myrtana, and since this is a sandbox RPG, you can explore it in any fashion you see fit as you fight to preserve your troubled land. The fighting system has been revamped, the open world lets you play the game how you see fit, and the main story and many sidequests are sure to keep you occupied for hours. This is the Enhanced Edition, which fixes many major bugs, improves the overall gameplay, and even has some improved graphics and effects from the original release.

GOG.com is sporting the Enhanced Edition of Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods made by Trine Games & G3 Community Patch Team. Get it now DRM-Free for just $9.99!

Poor GOG ... this expansion was really not received with much love considering it was made by some outsourced Indian company who had never made any games before ...
I love the Gothic series (including Risen), but Forsaken Gods is not Gothic.

Even the enhanced version is still unplayable on many computers. I think it has something to do with ATI graphics (I have three high end computers in my household, and neither of them are able to play Forsaken Gods with a decent frame rate - whilst Skyrim et al can be played on the highest settings)

Is it a decent RPG(story/gameplay wise) detatched from the Gothic name or what? I mean if one played it as a separate RPG/series?

PB went too far and dreamt too big for Gothic 3. The problem was that they could easily produce an "excellent" (that's my opinion anyway) product like Risen but fell short with something like G3. Jowood, profit wise, leaned on them to finish their product with all haste, and in turn pushed them towards a spiral of late development-ish disaster. If they divided the last part of the series into two parts, like G3 and G4 or a substantial add-on, they might have avoided that major fallout and perhaps received some flak only on the subject of being too greedy/lazy. Everything after that decision spelt disaster for the Gothic franchise as we know it.
Now as for Risen and it's sequel R2, PB hinted that they are getting tired of the strictly medieval fantasy setting and R2 might be the last game that includes such elements. Indeed, the pirate setting is probably a message that things might change. If they get full rights for the Gothic name back, I don't know what they'll do with it.

de_Monteynard: A stand alone add-on on GOG? What is going on?

Roman5: Happened with spellforce 2 from the same publisher
I believe Divine Divinity / Beyond Divinity is the same deal too, certainly Beyond Divinity isn't Divinity 2
Also, would you complain if GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas weren't all packaged together?

That could possibly be a fair statement for Arcania, but not this. It's the same as Gothic 3, just much worse. There is absolutely no benefit to playing this over G3.

Abandon it, hopefully. The Gothic name has been dragged through too much mud, and PB is creative enough to not have to rely on it.

Sooo excited about tomorrow.

I like seeing the next chapters of Gothic series here. My sense of completeness is becoming more satiatied. Keep the RPGs rolling, and that's an order!

Well, I can tell you that's probably something they can't do. The name has too much value for them, and received some publicity recently (and for the life of me I have no idea how that was possible). Best/worst case scenario (can't decide which), they give the work to some outside group and see what they can do with it.

I actually don't know. I've given the game plenty of chances, but performance wise it's been unplayable every time (on five different computers).
Not made by PB and it's beyond terrible.

Personally I don't think they overstretched. Gothic 3 is a very very good game (including the community patch), and if Jowood hadn't fucked things up I think it could have been epic.

The game needed a bit of extra content in some areas, and some polish in others, but I loved the scope of it... Half a year extra from PB, and it would have been one of the best games ever.
The comments here don't sound too promising.
Hey, GOG, just because they offer you a game doesn't mean you have to take it.

(I'm kinda suspecting the next game from GOG and JoWooD-owner Nordic Games will be this: http://www.nordicgames.se/index.php?/product/truck_racer – and it'll be $9.99)

Fred_DM: exactly. after the buggy and rather incomplete Gothic 3 a lot of people thought Piranha Bytes had lost it. turns out that they made the nearly bug-free and rather excellent Risen after they had left JoWood. JoWood, of course, intended to keep cashing in on the Gothic name so they outsourced the stand-alone expansion to an Indian (!!!) contract developer no one had ever heard of...
They actually reviewed that in the gamestar, depending on your native language there is a chance that you may have seen it. I've heard it also was very buggy. :) The current Gothic is better but does not live up to that once great name.
