lukaszthegreat: so how does that game compare to broken sword?

obviously the graphics are worse, but u can't blame it for that. both are great games, im not gonna say anything against broken sword. but GK, especially the first one is a lot darker than Broken Sword. Both are classics, i believe GK more so than BS.
I'd call this the best adventure game of all time, but Monkey Island 2 keeps glaring at me. Still, GK1 is pretty much perfect.
Some issues with the sound, otherwise it seems to run perfect. The speech has sudden bursts of distortion at times, frequent enough to notice easily. Running Vista. Haven't really tried different settings and not sure if I care enough about getting it run with no flaws at all.
So, yeah, Vista 64, runs well, apart from the slight distortion.
I've bought it regardless as the series is easily my favourite ever (GK2 is my number one game of all time), but can anyone confirm if it's the 640x480 resolution version or the 320x240 one?
The game was originally released as 320x240, but parts of it (the GUI, cutscenes and close-ups during conversations) were remastered at 640x480 for the CD release.

Hm, here's something from "The Countdown Has Started." thread, post #1978 by Protoss:
"It's the full talkie version of Gabriel Knight!"
And that would mean the CD version.
Besides GOG always tries to do their best with their releases, so it had to be the CD. ;D
I nearly fell over when I got the email about this one. Great, great, GREAT to see a Sierra adventure here at last. One of the great series of all time, and if you haven't played this one it's a must. Heck, I still have my CD copy and I might still buy this just to bring the support.
I just have one complaint for you fine folks at GOG - I know that ActivisionBlizzard owns the rights to the old Sierra back catalogue, but you really *really* should consider listing these as "Sierra" titles. I almost deleted the email without reading it this morning because it mentioned new games from Activision. If it had said "Sierra catalogue now at GOG" I would have jumped on it first thing.
To people who love "good old games", Sierra is a solid-gold brand. You should hype that connection!

I haven't tried Broken Sword, but GS was one hell of a game. The story is very gripping, very tense. One of the first adventure games I played.
All the gaming goodness without trying to fit that triangle/trapezoid box on your shelf! Well done!
Here is hoping for the Kings Quest, Police Quest, and Space Quest series...Please!!!
oh hellzzz yeah!!!
I remember when I played GK3, I loved this game, this ambiance was amazing and the ending floored me!
I've never played 1 & 2 so thank you!
Wow, you seriously rock, guys.
These days I have longed for playing GK1 again but with CD I have it was impossible to play it without a lot of crashes. Thanks a lot!
By the way, I had no idea Gabriel Knight belongs to Activision now.
First one of Sierra with hopeful many to follow. I`m hoping for the second and third installment of Gabriel Knight and the the complete Quest for Glory Collection.
In my humble opinion GK is the best adventure franchise (especially the second part) ever made and QFG a true gem on any RPG-crown . Keeping my fingers crossed...
And to think that Jane Jensen still has two finished GK-stories lying in her drawer, waiting to enter gaming-history and fame once more. It`s more crime than sin that Activision neglects these -undoubtful- hidden beauties...
I hope GOG can add the little comic book that came with the game eventually. Unless it is connected with the manual file. It wasn't a big deal, just a little back story.

I was going to post the same thing. The comic was actually really well done, but I think that they will likely add it in time.
