Start your own civilization from scratch and relive some of the most important moments in the world's history in today's release: Empire Earth.

The game is based on actual history, starting with the prehistoric age and spanning half a million years. You can essentially create your own civilization by selecting new unit/building bonuses, epoch by epoch. The single-player campaign missions are very true to the events they're depicting, letting you relearn or reenact some of history's most pivotal moments. Technological development ends at the futuristic "Space Age", letting you start off with sticks and stones and end up with tanks and mechs lumbering through the battlefield.

Quite a nice game, if you don't mind the VERY slow game play (it takes helluva lot of time to produce enough resources to build a decent base+army, and another lot to advance in ages).
IIRC, it has a surprisingly good AI, which makes it stand out of most other RTS games.

Curious enough about Empire Earth to give it a shot, I like the idea of epoch spanning battles. Partly reminds me of mega-lo-mania, but with highly different style in battle/resource-management.
I'll pick it up shortly, along with a few others I've been after.

Yes, more turn-based games like civilization, colonization and especially Alpha Centauri :-) Empire Earth is on my wishlist, acutally I don't have the time to play all this games in the row.

Are you kidding me? This game received some criticism at the time of release for letting you advance TOO quickly through the ages. It's a fun game and well worth the price though. I also seem to remember the intro had the likeness of several Hollywood actors too.

Mmm-hmmm. Maybe it was so and got nerfed in a patch (didn't play with it at the time of release), but I clearly remember having to wait a long time before advancing (well, if I didn't want to be crushed by some invading army, that is).
Of course, it can also be due to my somewhat overly defensive gameplay.

Sounds like a my kind of game. Always liked slow paced strategy games, gives time to really get into game instead of rushing through.
My only problem is time.. I already have over dozen games I've bought over past year and haven't had time to play even half of them. And GOG just keeps on bringing interesting additions to my collection... :(
