Not so long ago we released a bunch of classic RPGs set in the Dungeons & Dragons world of Forgotten Realms. Today the spotlight falls upon a younger, but extremely popular setting - Eberron.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/dungeons_dragons_dragonshard]Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard offers an interesting blend of genres. As the story progresses you will travel on the surface of Eberron and through the underground realm of Khyber. Here's where the genres get divided.
On the surface, Dragonshard is a real-time strategy with base building, amassing armies and everything else you would expect from an RTS game. Among the available unit types there are champions, lumbering Juggernauts, captains and regular soldiers. Only the captains can follow your chosen champion underground.
In Khyber, the realm beneath Eberron's surface, Dragonshard becomes a party-based dungeon crawler with role-playing elements, as befits a game bearing the Dungeons & Dragons name. Although it doesn't use the D&D ruleset, you'll have no doubt that you're playing a solid RPG.
Overall, a superbly designed game in an acclaimed setting, with an interesting story split into two campaigns that will keep you occupied for days. That's the Atari game that made you go to the underworld.
I guess I bought my first Eberron D&D game.
I prefer Forgotten Realms, but might give it a try after all.

whodares2: OMG!! Great release! I didn't expect this one. I remember going to EB to buy this game after seeing it and not having any cash. When I went back it was sold out, I think they only had 1-2 copies. Anyway never had a chance to own this one, now I do. Insta-buy!

amcdermo: I have no proof but when I thought of a game where you go to the underworld I thought of this one. I didn't remember the name but I did remember a D&D type game where you fight both overland and under the land.

whodares2: I think I know the game your talking about....but alas, I cannot remember its title either. I had a demo of an RTS that had two maps for the same level, one above and one below ground. I remember using the underground layer to flank enemies. Now if only I could remember the name....
Armies of Exigo?

That's the one! Thank you for helping me with that. I just spent the last hour or so going through some old demo discs trying to find the game I was thinking of.

Cheers!!
I remember checking out the demo just before the full version was released and have actually been thinking about getting the game lately. Always had a hard time not pronouncing the name as "Dragons-HARD", though...

Great, now I can't see it any other way than Dragons Hard. You've ruined it.
I bought this game from GoGamer.com years ago. Reminds me a lot of Warcraft III. It's not a bad RTS, but it also has nothing at all to do with D&D mechanics. The only D&D in this game is the flavor, & since I know very little about Ebberon, I can't really tell how close to canon they stayed.

DragonShard Introduction

I'm a little dissapointed to be honest.

I was expecting, something, I dunno, just 'more' than Dragonshard. First words I muttered when I saw it were 'Urh'.

Not a great RTS, not a great RPG, not a (at least in my opinion) good old game.

It had tedious combat, no real links to DnD, an interesting but ultimately flawed building concept and a repetitive nature about it that made me give up half way through.

On the plus side, it is quite challenging. Except I often felt it was challenging because of the bad micromanagement system rather than because of the actual level!

This! This is NOT by all means Good Old Game
This looks like Warcraft III with a different UI. Or is it just me?
I am aware that the original Dragonshard game had multiplayer. However, the page here only states "single player" under modes, and does not seem to mention any CD keys, which I believe came with the original game. Is it possible to play multiplayer with this version of Dragonshard offered here?
Found a german "let's play" of this game

Thanks GOG, I've wanted to try this one for a while . . . =)
