With today's release of Dark Reign 2, we continue to revive more titles from Activision's immense back catalogue.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/dark_reign_2]Dark Reign 2 is a pure example of what a real-time strategy should be. The biggest change distinguishing the sequel from the first part of the series was implementing a full 3D engine. Thanks to this feature now you can play the game like in traditional RTS games, looking at the terrain from above, or zoom in and watch the battlefield as you'd be one of JDA or Sprawlers soldiers. Gameplay is where the game truly shines with intense action, diverse missions and fairly demanding opponent's AI. If you know what to expect from a good ol' fashioned RTS, you'll find it all in Dark Reign 2.

Roman5: wow...I actually didn't know that sequel existed

thanks gog!
That makes two of us. Ah always good to have company :)

Catshade: So why is it cheaper than the first Dark Reign? Not that I'm complaining, since everyone seems to think that the second one is a better game anyway...
avatar
SLP2000: Because it's without expansion?
I kind of understand what you are saying but at the same time shouldn't the first one be cheaper anyway since it's older?

Both of these games should be 6 bucks, this is just Activision pricing games wrong

once again

They just think that expansion is something like another game. So they sell two games for 9.99 and one for 5.99

If you think that way, 9.99/2 is 4.99, so older game is cheaper.

StingingVelvet: Arggggg where is my Zork Nemesis GOOOOOOOG!!!

TheCheese33: Second'd
Third'd
Sweet loved this game back when it was first released. Instant buy.
Another vote for Battlezone (1&2). I also liked Heavy Gear 2.
Im probably being a bit anal about this as my spelling isnt great but proof reading GoG.

"Terrain and Environment – Adjust your strategy to take full advantage of the terrain and environment in day and night missions. Go to war on land, at sea and in the air. Hold off enemies by controlling vital choke-points and staging abushes. "

Edit: corrected my own spelling and grammar :-)

skrot: Not familiar with Dark Reign 2 myself, but this:

"With today's release of Dark Reign 2, we're continuing to revive more titles from Activision's immense back catalogue."

got me quite excited, can't wait to see the upcoming releases on gog.com!

edit: especially hopeful we'll see the top 2 games on gogs official wishlist sometime soon.
If you mean System Shock 2, that's EA you have to ask.
Great game, great storyline...thanks GOG!

I did mean System Shock 1 and 2, I was referring to my anticipation of future games on gog.com overall.

But of course you are right, I should nag on EA not Activision.
Interesting... But it doesn't bode well when the sequel is cheaper than the original 3 years its junior. Even with an expansion pack. So I don't know what to make of that other than to hope that maybe it means a price reduction on DR1.

There should be a rule of the internet for this. Spelling mistakes are inevitable when correcting other people's.

So great release! but how about Star Trek Elite Force?
I don't know, this one doesn't appeal to me somehow.
And btw, I really should buy and play the first one, I totally forgot about it.

Arianus: So great release! but how about Star Trek Elite Force?
You won't see any Star Trek games here. Arguably, given how much like bastards Paramount are, they probably should never have been made in the first place. I don't envy the publishers who have produced Star Trek games in the past, that's for sure.
Man, how I hate Dark Reign 2's unit movement AI.

1) No formations, so fast and often weak units are first to enter battle.
2) Unit pathfinding is terrible, units get stuck at each other, travel in queue.

I have the game on CD so I may give it another chance someday but you all can imagine how perfectly was 3D environment implemented in first 3D strategies...

BUT first give it a try yourself, cause I may be just an impantient moron myself.
