I recall it got OK ratings here when it was new.
However, mentality towards it seems to have worsened over the years; one Hungarian gaming mag put it among the 25 most disappointing PC games (one or two years ago), and in an other one it was called an utter failure.

Wow, so vicious :P I honestly don't see why it would deserve that? I think it may have attracted too many people wanting Mafia gang wars and lots of action when it was really a strategy game with some real time aspects.

I bought this game when it was first out. All in all, I would say it's a pretty good game from what I can remember. Funny, I was sure it wasn't a DOS title.
I would describe it a sim-like rts game with added sense of humor. I would compare it to 'Theme Park', 'Dungeon Keeper' or 'Majesty' (all of which could very well be added to GOG as well in my opinion) in terms of use of humor.
I don't remember it being an easy game but perhaps you should think twice if you are looking for a realistic sim game.
I think I will wish list for now, considering getting it for nostalgia - might write a review for it at some point.

I found this game as i was unpacking from a recent move and have just spent the last 7 hours trying to get it to work on my vista lapy i tried everything!! I loved this game years ago and was mortified not to get it working again.....
Then I found this site!!! It is downloading as we speak... so to speak!!!!! Is it the same as the old game or has it been upgraded in any way? I've tried to play this for somany years i Think i'm in shock!!!!!

It's the same game as years ago, using the DOS emulator [DosBOX] to run it, it runs beautifully on Win7 x64.

Is it me or does it run quite fast? i can't seem to slow it down my work gang is sprinting all over the place!

If you have a dual or quad core processor, try this:
start and minimize the game, right click on the windows taskbar, click task manager, select processes, select the constructor .exe, right click it and select set processor affinity, then tick only the CPU0 (and leave the CPU1,2,3 as blank). Press OK and now use alt+tab to go back into the game.

You can try two things:
1. In the Start Menu, find the Constructor's graphic setup utility [which actually sets a different mode in DosBOX], and see if it works slower on other modes, like Direct3D. Not sure this will help though.

2. The other method, which should work, is to lower the cycle count. Launch the game, press alt enter, to switch to the windowed more, and then lower the cycles with ctrl+F11 [hit ctrl+f12 to rise], You will note that the percentage value changes in the titlebar, Find the right value, and You're set!:D The bad news is that You'll probably have to do it each time You play. Yes, but then she can note the amount of cycles needed for optimal speed and use it in the config file once, which will be applied every time on its own.

Well. yes, but In dosbox_server.conf and dosbox.,conf the cycles value is set to "auto", in dosbox_client.conf it's"max". Therefore, the only thing You see in the title bar is "Cpu cycles : max", so, no amount is visable, only percentage of "max" when lowering. ;)
The best thing would be, of course to set cycles to a certain number, but differs between machines, and i don't won't to go overly technical on melarkey, Unless the gal has geeky potential.;P

Oh, it actually runs at exactly the same speed on my computer. A friend of mine, who used to play this game a lot back in the day, didn't comment it, so i guess that's how it should run. ;)

Then try manually setting cycles in the conf file, my guess it's dosbox_client.conf [as it is the only one with cycles=max], set them to 10000, and cycleup/cycledown to 1000, save the conf, launch the game and then rise/lower the value with ctrl f11 anf f12 until You have the desired speed. Hence trying to emulate an environment a bit below the games requirements. ;)

Don't forget to use the pause button often, than.

It's about the same speed for me, and it seems it's intended to be that way. I've also read complaints in some review (IIRC on MobyGames) that it plays too fast.
Also, while there *is* a pause button, you sadly can't really issue orders while the game is frozen. OK, it stands to reason, but still, a game this fast should really have that function.
