A truly exceptional game and by far one of the most realistic tactical combat simulators out there, the first title of the Combat Mission series is a fine addition to our catalogue.

The game is packed with missions representing memorable battles from the western front of World War II. The mechanics show incredible attention to detail. For instance, anti-tank damage is calculated depending on range, type of projectile, relative armor thickness and the angle at which the projectile impacted it. Furthermore, your units need time to react to order changes, adding a lot of suspense when an enemy tank suddenly appears from behind a hill. This is a truly awesome game, especially if you're into tabletop wargames.

Shame it's the Western front though, I want games set in the Eastern front. Despite the impression left by Hollywood movies, that's where a good portion of the action and the really key battles of WW2 took place.
If it's as historical and accurate as it claims, I might pick this up eventually, although the $9.99 pricetag for this game is slightly offputting.
And while this isn't the right forum to babble about graphics, the graphics of that game look pretty dated even for a 2001 release. Kind of reminds me of Daggerfall actually, except there's a lot less scenery in this game.

The next game in the series went to the Eastern Front.
In terms of accuracy, it's well up there -- the CM series is built by grognards, for grognards.

Nice. I've heard great things about the Combat Mission series, and I've wanted to try them out for a while. I'm going to hold off buying this until I beat a few more of the games I already own (or there's a sale that I can't resist), but I'll definitely pick this up at some point.

I was always interested in this game, but feared that the presentation would be too lacking (as most war games are). I guess i'll wait for some reviews before I buy it.

Oh yes, it is already pathetic that most of WW2 games are set in the Western front.
Just a few more games like this and I'll know Normandy better than my shoes...bah.

The two sequels cover the eastern front and north Africa respectively.

This is an exceptional game, that manages to capture the tactics and challenges of small unit combat in World War 2 extremely well. Well worth the money.

Hope that Barbie and Afrika Korps are on their way. This one doesn't grab my attention that much but I'd probably pick the other two up given the chance.
