This is a stunning game with loads of mods/maps etc for it to extend and customise the base game, CMBO also serves as a perfect gateway to the other games in the series (which will hopefully end up here eventually too!). It can be played as a PBEM multiplayer, or direct connect game etc as well as stand alone. Basically it's got a ton of hard core WW2 facts and figures (armour slopes and types etc) all hidden behind a really easy to get into 3D front end. Lastly, the vendor Battlefront are a great publisher and have provided a lot of support over the years for the community. Go on check it out! :)

(Sigh). Kids, this is probably one of the most successful PC wargame franchises. Battlefront allowing it to be sold here for $10 (remember: Battlefront are the "Friendly folks" who charged their customers $5 for a "Vista patch" of this game) completely boggles my mind.
For folks expecting an RTS ---> Company of Heroes that way.
For folks expecting shiny graphics --> go somewhere else. Even with many mods that polish up CM:BO, it will never live up to your expectations.
For folks wanting the Eastern Front --> be patient, maybe GoG will shock me again by bringing CMBB over here.
For everyone else --> this is a stupidly good wargame for baby grognards on up to old, cardboard-pushing greyhairs like myself. Then again, we already have this game. Probably twice.

When I fired it up, I noticed that Strategy First had a logo attached. That suggests the deal is probably Strategy First milking their rights more than Battlefront consenting to release the game here -- which seems even more likely as Battlefront hasn't made a connection to GOG from their home page.

It seems that Battlefront did not release this to GOG. Strategy First has a license to sell this game from Battlefront and is doing so at the end of their license period.
I bought this game when it first came out and it was worth the money then and worth the reduced price now. If I didn't already have two copies of it I would be buying another from GOG. Even thought there used to be a problem with 8800 series Nvidia cards it works now flawlessly for me with my 8800GT. I think somewhere along the line a new driver fixed whatever was wrong. And you can set all your nvidia control panel options very high to make it look a little better.
If you like wargames that make you think & plan your moves rather than just testing how fast you can click your mouse then this is for you.

One big question I have...the retail versions of the CM series suffer massive graphics problems with Vista using a DX10 capable graphics card. There is a path...but you have to pay another $5 for it.
Is that still the case with this version of the game???

According to Tirpitz, that was for Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin and not Beyond Overlord.

Ahh thanks, not heard that phrase used before in my part of the world and I used to be a pretty avid tabletop wargamer.

A person who is a longtime war gamer, and one that takes it seriously. This can either be with games such as this or detailed war board games. At least that is as much as I know.

A must have, i already own it (all of the four Combat Mission) absolutely awesome in pbem and replayability in Single!!!
For VIsta the problems are about Combat Mission 2 and 3 (Barbarossa and Afrika Korps) if i remember this one have no problems with DX10

Well, if the DX10 issues aren't present with this version, awesome. The CM series are really, really good games.

I was never able to run CMBO or CMBB on my maxed out quad core using XP. It did run on an old Pentium IV I had. So I am hesitant to pick it up assuming nothing has changed with your version.
Regarding the Battlefront comment, they are a key supplier of quality wargames, and they certainly can't be expected to support games that are going on 15 years old or more. Just my .02
